From start to finish my visit to CareNow on Preston was the best I could've hoped for. Registering online was a breeze. Available appointment was quick. Staff greeted me with warmth and professionalism. Nurse was attentive and personable. Doctor was knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I felt seen, informed and taken care of on this medical visit.
I took my mother in today. She was a bit dizzy, had a terrible headache but while we were waiting to be seen, she began to feel incredibly disoriented, weak and reported having double vision in one eye. I was having trouble understanding her symptoms as they were developing and as she reported the double vision to me we were called in to see the doctor. Deep inside I almost wanted to bolt out and get her to the ER but I thought better get the doctor to confirm. We waited for about 7 minutes to be seen. Front desk was cordial and kind. We were called in by an MA who was an absolute disgrace to the medical field. Instead of listening to the patient she began to mock my mom for reporting ‘confusion’. It was clear this woman was in a hurry to get my mom’s symptoms into her laptop more than caring to listen and understand what the patient was experiencing. My mother only spoke Spanish, I translated, which she was bothered about because when my mom’s pronunciation was off she could not wait for me to translate but interrupted with a cynical, pendantic tone. Mind you, this woman had an accent. Every time she asked a question my mom would try to find the words and she would get irritated at her lack of speed. I knew my mom was getting worse so I had no time for her bs and I asked her why she was so rude… Indignant she gathered her laptop and left the room. Another person from the staff came in, patiently took notes on a piece of paper. Doctor came in, kindly helped my mom explain her symptoms and sent us to the ER. My mom was presenting all the sign of a stroke. We arrived at the hospital and she was promptly seen. We are currently at BaylorSW down the road. This woman slowed down a patient’s care. A stroke demands that the patient’s symptoms be heard and cared for WITH URGENCY AND COMPASSION. Every minute counts. I’m a healthcare professional and a professor of Anatomy & Physiology. This medical assistant does not belong in healthcare. She has no business being in an urgent care facility. I’m contacting Care Now to make sure management hears about this. If you see this woman calling your name at this Care Now, beware of her attitude and report her.
The staff was friendly and very helpful. I was impressed with the professional and caring tone the front desk person provided to everyone on the phone and in person. I was even more impressed they didn’t turn people away when they walked in at 2 minutes before closing time!
Everyone was so nice and doing the best they could with how busy they were. The automated system is not perfect but that’s not on them. I loved I could get X-rays there as well. One stop shop! Merry Christmas! And doesn’t hurt they are by Trader Joe’s! This was the North Dallas location!
I have been a patient at this Care Now location for over 15 years, they have always had qualified doctors in the past who could see me on the same day I needed a doctor. They have also been great for evenings and weekends when I needed to be up and well for work travel. My experience yesterday was completely different. The front desk staff was amazing as always and the assistant who did the precheck for the doctor was also just great. The doctor I saw left me wondering what has happened here…I went in for a sinus infection, I’ve had sinus surgery and have a specialist but couldn’t get in, I knew I needed a steroid shot for the inflammation and an antibiotic as this is a yearly situation in November. This Care Now doctor, Deborah Thomas had no interest in hearing any of this, she proceeded to tell me what she “learned” in her residency and told me that inflammation is good. In this case it is not, so I’ll be seeing my specialist on Monday. We did get a chuckle out of this particular advice from Deborah Thomas. I will go to another Care Now location if needed in the future and I highly recommend that anyone else needing a doctor to LISTEN, especially if you are well informed to the situation you’re having to do the same. Very disappointed but looking forward to the change when it happens.
