I had so much fun learning how to skate! Also, the staff is very nice. Yea it looks a little run down on the outside.. but once you go in there its a lotta fun 🤭👍🏻
Honestly I was a little worried with some reviews at first! But Dave is really a super nice guy and has been in the business for 20 years!! He shows his generosity to all whom walk in his doors this is the oldest rink in Texas so yes it shows it’s age at times but you don’t come here for all the new gimmicks the other skate rinks have! You come for nostalgia and the separates him from the rest! And I love the fact they don’t play any explicit music it’s just down old good family times! And for your fyi he does care about the building he is very aware and is in the process of renovating as much as he can because he is held back by old cedar hill city laws give him time and space and this place will be restored to its glory days until then just enjoy kick back and let the good times roll! You rock Dave!!
THE OLDEST SKATING RINK IN TEXAS! Opened in 1956, Cedar Hill Roller Rink in Cedar Hill Texas has the unique distinction of being the oldest continually operating roller skating rink in the state, and the oldest continually operating business in the entire city. This is a fact that even many locals do not know and would be shocked to learn. Cedar Hill Roller Rink opened 64 years ago in 1956, and during that time has only had 3 owners. The current owner, David “Super Dave” Candanoza, has owned and operated the rink since 2006. Dave is undoubtably the heart and sole of the rink, and in my time there I saw him working the front entrance, the concession stand, the skate counter, being the DJ and also the game announcer. 14 years later, Dave is obviously loving his job and living his best life. The rink is 64 years old and nobody would disagree with that fact upon visual inspection. Although it must’ve been updated a few times over the years you can imagine that this facility largely appears as it did when it opened back in the 1950s. The names of hundreds of employees who have worked behind the skate rental counter are scratched and scribbled on the walls in a graffiti that blends together. The wear and tear of decades of bumps and bruises and crashes in collisions is evident everywhere you look. The ceiling needs work. Some of the lights don’t come on. The disco ball is missing. The place is a little bit of a mess. And no one cares. Everyone is having a blast. With Dave proudly handling the tempo of the evening from the DJ booth teenagers kids and the few adults in attendance found themselves endlessly skating in circles as well as playing games. Music blared out of two massive speaker towers in the corners. A few arcade games installed in the 80s and 90s we’re still chugging along happily eating kids quarters, I couldn’t help but notice the heavily worn 1981 miss Pac-Man arcade still powered up and inviting players to chase after ghosts and eat pellets. Despite the heavily worn facility, everyone here is having a great time, the playlist was awesome and the prices were more than fair. I would say that this is a blast from the past that you might want to experience for yourself. Don’t worry about looking for super Dave, he’ll find you.
This owner is a great guy. Very nice and personable. However the facility doesn't reflect his demeanor accurately. In all fairness, the inside is extremely rundown. Dimly lit, and dusty everywhere. The subfloor is rotting in places in the snack bar area, and everything in the interior is old. The actual skating floor was in decent shape. And thet had skates big enough to fit me. But unfortunately I just couldn't get past how gross the inside was to me. The carpets were stained and there was dog hair (???) or some other type of animal hair on the floor in the snack bar area. The entry way smelled of animal excrement. Idk. I wouldn't go here again until they updated and rennovated the interior...which I hope the owner is planning on doing soon.
This place is great! It looks like a front for a human trafficking ring but i had no problem with this place at all! It’s seven bucks cash or nine credit. It’s an extra two bucks to get skating blades. I came by super late at 10pm and practically had the place to myself and my friends. We stayed until midnight and I think we could have pushed that? Not sure but I enjoyed myself, hugely. The skating rink is pretty small and they say they can hold fifty people but I’d hate to see that many people on the rink. But it seems to be a nice hole in the wall so I wouldn’t be too concerned about it filling up. The bathrooms are small but clean. The music taste is garbage.
