Stopped by on a whim and ended up having such a satisfying meal. The catfish was cooked perfectly, the yams were full of flavor, and the mac and cheese was rich and comforting. Even dessert did not disappoint, the apple cobbler was warm and delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The dining space felt welcoming, clean, and comfortable. This place is absolutely worth another visit.

When Cornbread first opened, I really liked the food. Over time, though, the quality has fallen off badly. Every time I go, I end up saying, I’m not going back. The prices have increased, but the food and service have gone way down. Something is always missing from my order, and I have to go back and deal with the ill mannered staff. This was my first time returning in about six months, and I honestly don’t know why I gave it another chance. The cabbage had decent flavor, but it was so mushy like it had been cooking way too long. And the fish?? Oh my goodness. 🤦🏿♀️ I ordered the two-piece whiting and ended up eating unseasoned fish jerky. Dry, tough, and completely flavorless. Not even salt. Don't believe me? See photos attached. I am beyond disappointed. This was the last time for me. I won’t be giving them my money again.

Scored à free night from Marriott Bonvoy, staying at the Courtyard Newark Downtown (I broke up with a woman after we saw Wu Tang & Nas at Prudential, but y’all don’t need to know about that.) Annnyywaayz doe …. My main motivation from taking the train from Manhattan to NJ was to return to Cornbread Farm to Soul, and it did not disappoint! Had honey chicken & black eyed peas and macaroni and cheese and sweet teas! (Just one sweet tea, but I had to keep the rhyme scheme). Absolutely delicious!! Ten-course menus in Manhattan are nice to flex with, but nothing will satisfy me like soul food done right. I cleaned my plate and filled my heart. Glad to be back. And the service by Bernice Kim was as professional, warm and faith-restoring as the food and drink. Thank you Cornbread and Bernice, for making my Friday night and return to Newark memorable And also making me forget what’s-her-name. Much love to y’all. P.S. yes, I know there is a Cornbread in Brooklyn, but THIS location is where it’s at. Felt like I was back in the ATL ❤️

The hotel shuttle driver recommended that we try The Cornbread Soul Food restaurant. He was absolutely correct in his suggestion. Dropped in about 7p on Friday night, the place was fairly busy. The staff was amazing, willing to walk 1st timers through their menu choices. You better bring your best appetite cause you can't eat it all, especially if you select the large meals. The collards are perfect and you'll drink the "pot liquor " (juice), the cabbage was slightly crunchy exactly as I like them and the juice was consumed as well. The yams were sweeten just enough to make your mouth water as they enter your mouth. Of course the Cornbread was the perfect compliment to the meal. The turkey leg meal was overwhelming, much more than I could eat without taking a nap in the restaurant after eating. Had to get the doggie bag to finish later. The catfish was cooked with a highly seasoned batter that took away from enjoying the full flavor of the fish. There were many other items I wanted to try but knew I was allowing my eyes to be larger than my stomach. I appreciate this shuttle drivers recommendation and I too want to suggest this restaurant as a must try!
