A must-see iconic bookshop in London! 📚 You can easily spend an hour or two getting lost among the shelves. On the first floor all books are sorted by country which is quite easy to navigate. In the sections, you can find both literature and travel books related to that specific country/region☺️
Daunt Books in Marylebone is arguably one of the most visited bookshops in London. Set in a stunning Edwardian building, it offers an experience that feels like stepping back into a more refined era of literature. The long, oak-balconied gallery and the massive stained-glass window at the back create a peaceful, cathedral-like atmosphere that makes browsing feel special. The Travel Section is unrivaled, blending maps, guides, and local literature seamlessly Unlike standard shops, Daunt organizes its collection by country and region. This makes it an incredible resource for travellers. London section is addictive for who is passionate about ’The Big Smoke’. Their iconic, heavy-duty canvas tote-bags are a London staple for a reason.
Visited the shop after reading about it in Time Out magazine: I have mixed feelings about the place to be honest. The building is beautiful and I have been upstairs and downstairs browsing through shelves for a good hour. I think I only scratched the surface of the incredible collection, especially when it comes to Travel and Fiction. The Travel section is organised by country which I thought was an interesting take and I am convinced that it makes searching for books easier and more efficient. Upstairs there are few smaller sections, like Poetry and plays but I noticed that some of the books were a bit cramped on the shelves and were showing signs of spine or cover damage: it must be quite humid as there is a system of heaters set up - being under the roof it gets very hot during the Winter- and I didn't understand that because there is certainly space for the books to be displayed a bit widely... I need to go back for another browse, I can certainly find more than I need

What really sets Daunt apart is its incredible travel section, organized by country. You don’t just find guidebooks here — you’ll discover novels, histories, and essays from each region, curated with such care that you can lose hours exploring. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, and clearly passionate about books; they’re always happy to recommend something off the beaten path. Even if you’re not a huge reader, Daunt is worth visiting just for the atmosphere. It’s quiet, elegant, and somehow still feels alive with stories waiting to be found. I left with a stack of books I didn’t plan to buy — and no regrets whatsoever.
