This park is pretty peaceful, it’s located right next to a college, Has a child’s play area swimming pool open fields, multiple bridges and lots of water… If you haven’t been here, I would suggest you’ve come at least once to check it out, I will be returning in the summer to check out the swimming pool..

Elmendorf Lake Park has the potential to be one of the best lake parks in the area. The scenery is nice, and it’s located conveniently across from Our Lady of the Lake University, but the homeless population is fairly high, with many gathering near the center of the lake near a bridge. The water itself is littered, which unfortunately is common across most lakes in San Antonio. That said, the park is still worth a visit especially during the day for a walk, some fresh air, or just to enjoy the view. Fishing is ok. You will get skunked most days for bass, but catfish fishermen do fairly well. If you do visit, clean up after yourself.

It is a great little Park to fish at. We caught 7 bluegill within 30 minutes. I recommend using a very small hook and fishing off of the pier with corn near the bottom.

Elmendorf Lake Park – A Hidden Gem in the Heart of San Antonio If you're searching for a relaxing getaway within city limits that offers beauty, fun, and a family-friendly environment, look no further than Elmendorf Lake Park. Tucked away near the historic Our Lady of the Lake University, this park is a true treasure for locals and visitors alike, offering a perfect blend of natural serenity and recreational activity. One of the first things that will capture your attention is the huge, sparkling lake that sits at the center of the park. It's not only a breathtaking sight but also a great spot for fishing. Anglers of all skill levels can enjoy casting their lines along the many designated fishing spots. Just make sure to bring a valid fishing license, as it's required to fish here. The lake is teeming with aquatic life, and you’ll often see people quietly enjoying a peaceful afternoon with a rod and reel in hand. Surrounding the lake is a network of sidewalk trails, ideal for those who love to walk, jog, or simply take in the view. Whether you’re pushing a stroller, walking your dog, or just taking a solo stroll, the well-maintained walking paths give you plenty of room to roam. It's also worth noting that dogs are welcome—just remember to pick up after your pet and do your part to keep the park clean and enjoyable for everyone. As you explore the park, you’ll be greeted by lush green vegetation that provides refreshing shade and beautiful scenery. The sight of ducks gently gliding across the water, the rustling trees, and the soft sounds of nature make it easy to forget you’re in the middle of a bustling city. Families will especially love the playground and splash pad area, where kids and even adults can cool off as water sprays from the ground in playful fountains. It’s a joy to see children laughing, running, and playing while parents relax on the nearby benches and tables, many of which are placed under shady trees for comfort. Planning a picnic or cookout? Elmendorf Lake Park has you covered with plenty of BBQ pits available for public use. Gather your friends or family, fire up the grill, and enjoy a delicious meal with a view. Whether it's a birthday party, a weekend hangout, or just a peaceful evening barbecue, the facilities are perfect for creating memories. One of the most striking features of the park is the view of Our Lady of the Lake University, a historic Catholic institution with stunning architecture. The way the sun hits the church towers across the water creates a photo-worthy scene that feels almost postcard-perfect. Another charming detail about the park is the presence of beautiful bridges that cross over the lake and walking paths. These bridges add both function and elegance, connecting different areas of the park and offering unique vantage points to take in the scenery. However, one issue that deserves attention is the presence of litter and trash on the ground in some areas. It’s unfortunate because this park is truly a natural jewel in San Antonio. Visitors are strongly encouraged to do their part by picking up after themselves and helping preserve the beauty of Elmendorf Lake Park for future generations. Let’s keep this space clean, welcoming, and enjoyable for everyone. In summary, Elmendorf Lake Park is a wonderful destination for a peaceful escape, an active afternoon, or a family outing. With its picturesque lake, fishing spots, BBQ areas, splash zones, and serene views, it’s a place that offers something for everyone. Just remember to leave it better than you found it, so its beauty can continue to inspire all who visit.

Elmendorf Lake Park in San Antonio is a lovely and well-rounded destination for anyone looking to enjoy the outdoors. The park features a beautiful lake perfect for fishing, with a nice fishing pier that I’m definitely planning to try on my next visit. The walking trails are well-maintained and offer a peaceful environment for a stroll, while ample seating and BBQ areas provide ideal spots for relaxing or enjoying a picnic. I did talk to some people fishing under the bridge and they said they were catching bass. I did inquire about walking in the area past the bridge away from the college campus that is across from the lake. A couple people said to be careful walking in that direction on the other side of I believe commerce as they said it gets sketchy. The park also offers a splash pad that operates from May to October, making it a great family-friendly attraction during the warmer months. During summer, the pool is open for swimming, and there is also a playground for kids to enjoy. One of the things I appreciated most was the abundance of parking, which makes it easy to visit any time. I brought my dog along on leash for a walk and, while I had a great time, there were several large stray dogs that approached us midway through the walk. Fortunately, there were trail stewards nearby, which gave me peace of mind. They ensured the situation was handled, and I didn't feel unsafe, even though I was initially concerned about my dog possibly being attacked. Overall, Elmendorf Lake Park is a fantastic spot for walking, fishing, family gatherings, and relaxation. The park’s amenities and scenic environment make it a wonderful place to visit, and I’ll definitely be returning to try out the fishing.
