Always a fav stop with I’m in Portland, even if I eat my food too quickly to get pics of most of it. The homemade pasta, the salads, the shotzerella, the chicken parm… getting hungry all over again just thinking about it. Can’t wait to revisit and see what new things they’ve got on the menu!
We visited on a Wednesday night, and the place was surprisingly busy. They don’t take reservations, only walk-ins, so when we arrived around 6:30 p.m., we were told the wait would be about an hour. Since we had driven 45 minutes to get there, we decided to wait. Honestly, I’m not sure it was worth it. The food was decent, but nothing special. Before coming, I looked up the restaurant on Google Maps, read the reviews, and even picked out what I wanted to order. Unfortunately, they change their menu often, and the dish I wanted was no longer available, which was disappointing. We ordered the fried mozzarella (which were the best part of the meal), the classic spaghetti with meatballs, and the Dungeness crab pasta with vodka sauce. The spaghetti tasted good, but the noodles were a little overcooked and soggy. The crab pasta had nice flavor, but it would’ve been better with meatballs or sausage instead of crab. Our total came to about $80 for two people, and we did have some leftovers. The restaurant is tucked into a neighborhood, which makes it feel kind of hidden, and parking was tough, just crowded street parking. Overall, not terrible, but not great either. The food was fine, the atmosphere was a bit loud, but I probably wouldn’t drive that far to come back. I would maybe come back if they had a white sauce pasta option.
I found this spot through TikTok in search of Italian restaurants while spending my birthday weekend in Portland. I won’t say the food was bad but I certainly wasn’t impressed. For the price I paid, I would’ve been better off going to Olive Garden and getting more bang for my buck and, personally, better tasting food. I still recommend trying if you’re interested but the food is mid in my opinion.
I was excited to try some good Italian food and unexpectedly got a great craft cocktail experience. Devon the bartender was great with in-depth cocktail knowledge and made me the perfect custom drink. The take on the classic mozzarella stick was delicious and definitely matched/beat the photo. The chicken parm was good, but I do wish it came with pasta. The food is family-style so expect big portions and sharing. Since there are only a couple of people running the kitchen additions or a La carte item as aren’t available. If you haven’t ate here already come down and try it. I would recommend getting there at a good time to put your name down since it’ll be a long wait; they don’t take reservations.
Gabbiano’s is a wonderful Italian restaurant for a special date or when you’re looking for elevated Italian cuisine. The menu is simple, with just a few choices. Their focaccia bread is a fabulous starter, and the fried mozzarella is tasty, although I’m not sure it’s worth $14. They make the pasta from scratch, and their red sauce is superb. They also mix a nice assortment of cocktails. The wait staff excel at making you feel special. If the weather permits, sit on the patio for a lovely café experience.
