Gallery Arcturus est une galerie d'art contemporain à but non lucratif et un centre d'éducation situés dans un bâtiment patrimonial du style géorgien réinventé datant de 1858 à Toronto. Avec neuf espaces d'exposition répartis sur quatre étages, elle présente plus de 200 pièces de sa collection permanente et des œuvres nouvelles créées sur place, organisées autour de thèmes philosophiques et de l'expérience humaine. La galerie propose une entrée gratuite, une ambiance intime avec des plantes luxuriantes, et un accès unique à un espace de travail public, mettant l'accent sur l'enquête et la communauté plutôt que sur les ventes commerciales. Elle offre un espace accueillant pour les amateurs d'art, les étudiants et les visiteurs afin d'explorer, réfléchir et s'engager avec des expressions artistiques diverses.

Gallery Arcturus is a not‑for‑profit contemporary art gallery and education centre, housed in a heritage Georgian Revival building dating back to 1858. It’s unique in that it isn’t commercial — the focus is on inquiry, creativity, and community rather than selling art. The gallery has nine exhibition spaces across four floors, featuring works from its permanent collection (over 200 pieces, including paintings, sculptures, collages, and photographs) as well as new works created on site. Curator Deborah Harris often develops exhibitions around philosophical or human‑experience questions, making the shows feel more like explorations than static displays. On the plus side, admission is free, the space is intimate and welcoming, and the heritage building itself is part of the experience. On the downside, it’s a small gallery, so you won’t spend more than an hour or two here, and its focus on conceptual inquiry may feel niche if you’re looking for a more traditional art museum.
Such a cool place and it's free!! The owner is so nice and friendly too. They have new pieces every few weeks I'm pretty sure so every time you go there it'll be something different!
humble front for a v cozy v well curated exhibit ft local artists (my favourite as of late including Floyd Kuptana’s half human/animal sculptings) and loads of plants throughout this 3 story / 2 section split gallery, giving it a lush and homey feel that is unique in the city’s art spaces. the basement’s workroom is also open to the public, which was a real treat to view WIPs - another unique aspect of Arcturus. and, photos are allowed! manager, Ed is a sweetheart who really cares about people taking time to enjoy themselves, and we had a lovely conversation about seeing works in a new light upon reflecting in the company of strangers - a must visit to this maze-like gallery :)
A unique free art art gallery with a wide range of art styles. There are small gallery spaces on each of the floors and cozy areas to read, research, or draw. Well curated and always something new and fascinating being presented throughout the year. Well worth a first, second, and third visit.
I have passed by this art gallery so many times but never went in. Gallery Arcturus is a not-for-profit contemporary art exhibit and education centre located at Church and Gerrard. It is funded and operated by The Foundation for the Study of Objective Art, a private charity established to promote the study of art. It's not so small and mighty. I enjoyed the exhibits. Staff was super friendly. Oh, and it's FREE!
