best place to get back into or begin a peaceful practice of personal growth with respect for all sentient life including your own. Linc is very easy going and knowledgeable and I've always felt a positive experience taken away from any time spent in mediation here.
Warm and open community. Meditation room has a deep and peaceful feel. Beginners welcomed.
Attended the monthly all day retreat! I signed up on eventbrite. Second Saturday of the month! $25 suggested donation. Lovely vegetarian lunch served! Met people from all over Indy!
Fun for a one time visitor, sad sad experience for anyone who wants to go regularly. Not a "Zen Center" actually, just some white guy's house who doesn't update the website so when you actually try to go for morning meditation, no one is there to welcome you like they are for evening meditation. Just an objectively upsetting experience. The initial visit just happened to be a good experience because of the time and date that i happened to go.
I was a previous resident of the zen center and lived here for three months. The meditation space is clean, beautiful, and the man in charge, Linc, hosts meditations here twice a week, each for an hour long. It's a great resource to the community. It's located in a lovely neighborhood. He's cordial to incoming people, just make sure you're vaccinated! However, the same could not be said for what it was like to live here. If you think you're going to be able to do a residency here for the sake of "becoming more zen," it's only going to happen because you have to find your zen-ness amidst the unpleasantness. For $500/m it was too much stress and I couldn't even comfortably use the kitchen because the abbot is very nitpicky about everything. At the end of the day, it's not really a "Buddhist temple." It's a person's house and they host meditations twice a week, and rents out rooms for $500/month. Plus there's no lease or anything like that, so that made me feel uneasy about renting a room here as well.
