I’ve been really impressed with this gym. It has a welcoming environment, clean space, and a strong sense of community. The equipment is well-maintained, and you can tell the focus here is on real results, not gimmicks. What makes it stand out the most is the dedication and passion behind it you feel supported, motivated, and encouraged to push yourself while still being comfortable at your own pace. Definitely a place I’d recommend to anyone serious about their health and fitness.
I’m a ex amateur boxer who trained with Coach Bilal about 6 years ago! I took time off to have my Daughter and haven’t really worked out in a year or so. I recently started back training with Bilal and I’m very happy I did! He is very knowledgeable in boxing, one of the best in the Bay! Not only does he know the great way to teach boxing skills he’s also knowledgeable in fitness! International Boxing Institute (IBI) is hands down one of the best boxing gyms in the Bay! I have trained at several boxing gyms throughout San Francisco and Oakland since starting in 2009. I started training with Coach Bilal in 2015, and when he opened IBI post pandemic it was my saving grace. Many of the gyms were closed due to COVID and as a result I was not able to train for a little over 2 years. He has created a space that not only feels safe, but truly IS safe for women, children and people from all backgrounds. Every month the gym hosts a women’s sell-defense workshop led by Coach Goddess. Watching our women elders get in there and hit the mitts is my favorite! They’re all baddies!! Here you will learn the fundamentals, focus on technique and the basic understanding of boxing. You will get out of it what you put in. If you’re looking to fight professionally you definitely want to get in on the sparring classes. Coach Red is one of the most dedicated coaches I have ever worked with. He is incredibly knowledgeable and goes above and beyond coaching. He is a mentor and works to improve the well-being of the community IBI serves. I am incredibly grateful to the coaches and the gym. Boxing is essential for my mental health and overall wellbeing.
I have been training with Coach Ray for over 2 years and it has been phenomenal. As a personal trainer I am always trying to push my body in new ways, and all of my sessions with him have been challenging, fun, and rewarding. If you are looking to learn more about boxing, build strength, get in some good cardio, or find a fun way to workout I highly recommend Coach Ray.
