Checked the menu out online before coming. Looked amazing so we decided to check it out. We were greeted and seated promptly, even though it appeared to be very busy. Everything is so cute in the place. Aesthetic on point. Food was amazing, service was great, and this guy was slammed busy.
Great customer service our 1st time here food was excellent. Next time I'm in Detroit I'll definitely be back. But that Cajun smoke stuff Shrimp Alfredo turkey leg is SLAPPIN OMG!!!
Lovely experience with delightful food! Was packed and very busy mid-day Saturday, but despite that the service was still timely and kind. The “Martha’s Seafood Skillet” was perfectly cooked, the shrimps were abundant, and the meal delightfully tasty. Same with the “Gratiot Street” chicken and waffles, literally looks just like the picture and tasted amazing. I also had the southern cheesy grits, which was so yummy and so cheesy! The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, loved the decor. Staff were friendly and efficient. Would definitely go here again if in Detroit!
🌟 Southern Comfort with Detroit Soul – A Must-Visit! 🌟 Joe Louis Southern Kitchen is truly a breath of fresh air. From the moment you walk in, the nostalgic vibe wraps around you like a cozy family backyard gathering—complete with the aroma of home-cooked southern favorites that beautifully connect Detroit to its southern roots. 👋 Atmosphere & Service The host and servers were vibrant, friendly, and made us feel right at home. Their energy matched the welcoming ambiance perfectly. 🍽️ Food Highlights I ordered the Southern Cobbler French Toast with a side of cheese grits, and this combo did not disappoint! - The French toast was thick, fluffy, and soaked up the syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, and cooked peaches like a dream. Every bite was a delightful blend of sweetness and comfort. - The peaches melted into the toast, adding a soft, fruity richness that elevated the dish. - The cheese grits were exactly what I hoped for—thick, creamy, and perfectly blended with cheese. Not runny, not bland—just right. 💰 Value Considering the flavor, portion size, and overall experience, the price was more than reasonable. You get quality and comfort without breaking the bank. 💬 Final Thoughts Joe Louis Southern Kitchen has earned a permanent spot on my list for southern comfort food. As long as they’re around, I’ll keep coming back for that soulful taste and welcoming atmosphere.
I am so glad the concierge at MGM Detroit recommended Joe Louis Southern Kitchen so highly! We found great parking right in front. Nice greeting when we arrived! Thursday at 10 am place was hopping! I had the second best French Toast of my life. The first was at The Meurice in Paris! So delicious! I think with hints of cardamom! Thick cut bacon was fab! Real maple syrup! My son loved his shrimp and grits! Folks at the next table having literal platters of food! Delicious and huge portions!
