Had the 200$ per person omakase experience upstairs and each piece of fish had so much wasabi on it that us and the guests around us were scraping it off and coughing until red in the face. I would expect the fish to be the star of the dish at this price point but unfortunately each roll was inedible until we removed the fish from the roll and scraped the wasabi off with our chopsticks. Staff were friendly and attentive.
3-Star Michelin Vibes — Without the Flight to Tokyo! Having dined at Jiro in Tokyo, I can confidently say this spot rivals that world-class experience — with a warmer touch and a staff that speaks perfect English! From the moment we arrived, the valet parking made everything easy (though I recommend taking an Uber if you’re doing the wine pairing… you’ll definitely want to savor every sip). We went for the Matsu omakase, and wow — every course was a work of art. The freshly grated wasabi, the thoughtful pacing, and watching each dish come to life at the sushi bar turned dinner into a full sensory experience. Chef Shiga was an incredible host — friendly, engaging, and clearly passionate about his craft. And to top it all off, we had the pleasure of meeting Owner-Chef Shigeyuki Furukawa at the end of our meal — such a gracious and humble culinary genius! My wife and I left absolutely blown away and already planning our next visit. Perfect for a date night, a special celebration, or simply treating yourself to something unforgettable. This place has officially earned a spot on our favorites list! 🍣🍶✨
We did the omakase Take menu and overall, it was a great experience. The ambiance was intimate, and being seated at the chef’s counter added a personal touch as we watched the preparation up close. The progression of dishes was thoughtfully curated, with a mix of delicate flavors and beautiful presentation. However, while most of the nigiri was excellent, a few pieces did fall short in terms of freshness. There was a slightly fishy note that took away from the otherwise refined experience. It didn’t ruin the evening, but it was noticeable enough to mention. That said, the service was attentive, and the pacing of the meal was well-balanced. I’d still recommend the omakase for a special night out.
This is, without question, the best sushi you can find in the Midwest. Every visit reminds me why it’s so special. The fish is always incredibly fresh and thoughtfully paired with sushi rice that’s perfectly cooked and seasoned. Each dish arrives on beautiful plates that enhance the presentation, but what really makes it stand out is the heart behind the food—you can tell the chefs truly care about bringing joy to people through their craft. Sitting at the sushi counter is an experience in itself. Watching the chefs work is like watching artists at their canvas, every cut and every detail deliberate. They don’t just serve sushi—they take the time to explain where the fish comes from, how it was prepared, and what makes each piece unique. It transforms the meal into a connection, not just a dining experience. I’ve been fortunate to visit several times over the last 4–5 years, and every time feels just as exciting as the first. It never gets old. The quality, the artistry, the warmth—it’s worth every penny and then some. This isn’t just a place to eat; it’s a place to appreciate food at its highest level, and to walk away feeling lucky you got to experience it.
We had such a terrific experience here with a group of friends. Went with the Take Omakase. Every dish was beautiful, fresh, and flavorful. The entire staff were friendly and fun. Really made it a fantastic experience. We stayed until the restaurant closed! Can’t wait to come back again to try sitting at the chef’s counter.
