A wonderful place for kids to practice. My son does math here, daily practice at home with steady practice and two days a week go to the center for support.

It’s the art of math education. Both my sons have made tremendous progress and have been on the honor roll, performing well above their grade level. In the early ’80s in Tokyo, I was a Kumon student. To this day, I still remember how much I hated Tuesdays and Thursdays. I had to spend time in a crowded classroom, solving similar, simple math problems repeatedly. It felt endless. But because of Kumon, I became very good at math in school, which eventually led me to become a mechanical engineer. Decades later, my older son received a bad grade in math. I first tried to teach him using textbooks I bought on Amazon. I failed. Teaching him how to solve individual problems was easy, but we had no clear goal and no clear path for him to truly get good at math. I was also skeptical of the textbooks themselves—they were just lists of randomly generated math problems. Soon, he refused to sit down with me, and he got another bad grade. I felt uneasy when my sons started Kumon. I had hated Kumon, but there didn’t seem to be a better option in Lexington. Instead of going to the classroom twice a week, we received paper packets and did them at home. Every day, they spent 30–60 minutes solving problems. There were two surprises. First, the kids committed to it and started doing the work on their own, without us telling them to. That’s the result of the curriculum’s guided path. At each level, they need to pass an exam to move on. We could clearly see their progress and celebrated each level-up. The second surprise was how exceptionally well designed the program is. While checking their work, I began to notice that the intention behind each math problem was carefully thought out—something I never felt when I was a student. At first, all the pages look the same: a bunch of similar calculations over and over. No one expects a series of math problems to have meaning. But the steps, pacing, and difficulty are laid out so thoughtfully that kids don’t stumble—they gain confidence and start running on the shortest path forward. Once you start noticing that every page reflects the designer’s intention, you can feel the weight of Kumon’s 70-year history, refined continuously. It’s the art of math education. Honestly, I don’t know what else I could recommend more. Thank you Kumon!

My son is homeschooled. I thought he learned his multiplication tables but I was wrong. We had to basically start all over and that is when we started with Kumon. The worksheets helped him learn multiplication and long division in just a few short months. If he needed further explanation, he could receive help at the center. Q finished a section, took a test and earned a score of 79/80! He has been so successful with math I am considering trying the reading program too. Kumon rocks!

My son was behind in reading and writing. Within 6 months doing kumon he went up a whole grade level at school. Kumon has been a blessing on helping him succeed. The staff is really friendly and knowledgeable. He even looks forward to kumon
