Since being a part of Lifeup, I have significantly improved weak areas of my training and my diet, reduced or eliminated pain from nagging injuries, and accomplished goals that I did not believe were possible for me. In my most recent experience with Lifeup, I participated in a 100 day challenge. The challenge was simple and very effective. I simply chose two goals, and if I met those goals each day, I checked them off on a spreadsheet. Nothing more. With some friendly reminders to keep up with my goals, I stayed motivated to get the 2 checks everyday. At the end, I was able to accomplish 2 goals that I probably would not have without this simple competition. What was my prize at the end? Easy. The satisfaction of reaching a goal. Not giving up and still losing can be more gratifying than being handed the win. Thank you Lifeup for getting me on the right path to better overall health and wellness. Before starting the 100-day challenge with Derek at LifeUP, I was very resistant to movement and struggled to find consistency in my wellness routine. I would maybe workout 1x per week. I thought my main goal was just to lose body fat—which I did, keeping over 10 pounds off—but the real miracle has been the shift in my mental health and overall well-being. I started working with Derek after he began offering sessions through my company. After an indulgent summer and holiday season, complete with my first year as a football season ticket holder, I was feeling unhealthy, out of shape, and truly unhappy with myself. I've always been athletic and fit, and in the past I felt I knew enough to keep myself balanced but it was obvious I was not managing well alone (and with age O_O). I finally reached out for a 1:1 consultation to learn what his coaching services were all about. He was very clear on his process, gave me options, and never made me feel pressured. I decided to sign up for monthly health coaching, virtual training sessions, and some initial gut and vitamin tests to get a baseline of my health. The health coaching was immensely helpful for several reasons: - He gave me a simple framework to follow and strategies to keep myself accountable - Derek is your cheerleader. He doesn't "scold" you - however he does whatever he can to help you stay accountable, plan and avoid excuse-making in the first place, or talk through what you're struggling with (example: if he knows you have an event or a vacation coming up, he will suggest ways to manage while still allowing yourself to enjoy life). He has coached me through frequent special events, TRAVELING and dealing with disrupted routines, tailgating strategies, a very stressful cross-country move, my obsession with eating out... pretty much anything life can throw at you! He is empathetic and attentive to both your physical and mental needs. Some of the personal, lifelong skills I learned from Derek include - creating my "CEO schedule" where I make sure to plan my eating times and workouts; - meal planning, composition, and EASILY determining my fruit and veggie servings using my hands; - learning which foods are best for me; - making better-ish decisions when eating out :P - the importance and POWER of those damn steps! - I've also found several products through Derek to help supplement my nutrition that I have genuinely grown to love and are now a part of my daily life. Lastly, getting my workouts from Derek every week has been one of the best things for me. This is one area that A) I don't have time to do on my own, and B) did not understand how to do on my own. Before Derek I did the most random weight training imaginable (which wasn't consistent). Now I am so much more confident in the gym. Even though we are totally virtual, he spent time gauging where I was physically through facetime sessions and learning what my literal pain points/limitations were. He listens to your comments on each workout and continues to adjust as needed. 4 months after I started with Derek, I saw physical changes in my body that I hadn't ever seen in my adult life (see photo of my progression). My family, friends, and even strangers commented on my physique (which Derek will encourage you to document and put in a jar of "awesome")! Yes, it took discipline, but Derek always made it feel achievable. While life continues to ebb and flow, and sometimes I am more or less focused on my health goals, I feel much more in control by being equipped and educated, and much more prepared to integrate lifelong practices to avoid getting too far off track again. Most importantly, I SEE it's possible to make the changes I want through the fundamentals of focused diet and exercise because of him!
J'ai adoré travailler avec Derek ! Je suis en grande forme, mais je DÉTESTE faire de l’exercice. Puis, j'en suis arrivé à un point où je voulais pousser ma condition physique au niveau supérieur, mais je ne savais pas comment faire. Puis, j'ai rencontré Derek lors d'une retraite de yoga, et j'ai su que je voulais travailler avec lui. Travailler avec Derek, j'ai en fait commencé à attendre mes séances d'entraînement avec impatience. Les exercices étaient difficiles mais pas impossibles, et sa personnalité les rendait amusants, et je me sentais toujours encouragée et soutenue. J'ai tellement appris en m'entraînant avec lui, et il n'y avait jamais aucun jugement. J'ai aussi adoré le fait qu'en plus de m'aider à progresser dans mes objectifs d'entraînement, son système de mesures m'a également aidé à gérer mes objectifs en matière de nutrition et de carrière.
