I get tattooed by Jeannie. She’s done 11 of my 20 tattoos. She’s a phenomenal artist who’s been doing it for over 20 years and the other tattooers are fantastic as well. Always a good conversation and fun when your in lower town getting tatted. Come on down to lower town. Good vibes only.
This place is great, and Jeannie is the best! I have gotten several tattoos from her, and her work is absolutely beautiful, and heals great! In the consultation process, she is really helpful and knowledgeable about how the particular design will age, for example; you can tell she really takes pride in her work. These folks are friendly and fun. Thank you, Jeannie! I love my tats from you!
I booked Jeannie for a floral arm tattoo and paid a $100 deposit after a consultation. We went through three revisions, with my final requested tweaks being very small (matching the florals on each side, removing a couple of disconnected leaves, and a slight rotation for better placement). Instead of discussing next steps or confirming whether I was open to paying for additional revision time, Jeannie canceled my appointment entirely with no mention of the paid deposit. This one-drawing/one-revision policy at $175/hr for any further changes was not made clear during our initial consultation. I understand artists have boundaries and rates, but clearer upfront communication would have helped manage expectations, especially considering tattoos are permanent art.
It's been awhile since I got a tattoo here (was at the start of this year), a lot has been going on in my life that delayed things. The tattooist I went to no longer works there which I'm kinda glad for because they were great and I wouldn't want my criticisms to affect them, they're the reason for the 3 stars. First i love my tattoo and again the artist I got, they were amazing, very patient and considerate, friendly, I still follow them! The problems are more outside their control. It took me awhile to process things and even know what to do once I had, I'm still not sure what someone's supposed to do. My partner remarked that while my artist was hygenic the studio didn't seem to be, especially with other artists. One tattooist was vaping while working on someone, feminine presenting, who was in a lot of pain and didn't seem to be getting any empathy from him. That was uncomfortable in and of itself but there's another point that quickly drew my eye for the bad vibes it was giving off. I knew right away that the skull this tattooist had was real, and he confirmed it. This guy had a human skull just on display! He claims it's a viking skull but the timeline he gives doesn't even fit the viking era, it would have already been over at least a century before that (I doublechecked when we got home, though have forgotten the exact numbers now). Even if it was the skull of a nordic person who had been out viking (because it was an action not an ethnicity/race) I doubt they gave permission for their skull to be decor. More than likely it's a skull from a minority group that was and still is at least in death being taken advantage of. I don't know if this is still the situation there and that's also why I'm hesitant to give lower stars. I know this was a group of friends who gave a place to a struggling artist friend that needed a studio, I don't personally know everyone involved. I also still don't know what I'm supposed to do with this information, like who do you even report something like that to? Like museums in most cases shouldn't ahve this stuff either but it persists. And I don't want to put anyone else unjustly in the crosshairs. This was the best idea I could come up with. If we had known even only about that we wouldn't have gone despite how much I like my tattooist, let alone the hygiene issue of getting vape in a tattoo or listening to what at least came across as a rough tattooing session. I hope the skull is returned to its rightful place, that this small shop improves where needed, and that no one is unfairly hurt in the process.
Rylee was great to work with and he naturally creates such a comfortable atmosphere for his clients. Insane talent to be able to draw your design directly onto your skin from just a couple of ideas I had thrown at him. To see him transform my thoughts onto my arm was truly impressive and he nailed it! I look forward to finishing my sleeve and working on future pieces with him!
