It’s been a decade since I’ve eaten here and one thing that always remained in my mind were the mashed potatoes. Live plants line big open windows to the dining patio which is very nice. Continuing inside you’ll find massive stone walls. It gives a cozy feel. I had my first visit back in September 2025, I sat on the lovely patio and decided to try one of their Blue plate lunch specials -Wednesday Chicken Fried Chicken. A decent size chicken breast fried to a light golden brown, tender and served with the yummy white cheddar mashed potatoes - not as good as I remember and not as firm as I remember and tasty perfectly cooked greens beans. The service was friendly, prompt. The food was deliciously satisfying. I knew I’d be back again… Dec 2025 I decided to time our arrival so that we could enjoy the blue plate special and enjoy a drink during happy hour. I wish I could say I was more impressed but I just wasn’t, on this visit. The service was great, but the food we ordered did not meet my expectations. We ordered the Friday, blue plate special Tempura Fried Shrimp comes with fries and coleslaw. I also ordered a wedge salad. My favorite thing was the coleslaw, a good vinegar tang to it, I think it even had pickled purple onions(?) - which I’m not usually a fan of, idk but it was amazing! The shrimp were huge, but had entirely too much breading for me. The fries, meh. Some hush puppies would have been a nice optional side (not on the menu but would be a nice consideration). The wedge salad was simple, but lacked any of the oomph you expect in a wedge salad like strong blue cheese, bacon, a hearty dressing that compliments and pulls it all together- this salad lacked taste. I honestly expected more from a fine dining restaurant when it came to this meal. I am going to return and try the Monday, Thursday Blue plate specials too. And I’d love to get a steak at some point as well!
MacKenzie's was from beginning to end a fantastic dinner stop. We made reservations and were immediately seated upon arrival. Our server Susan went above and beyond to explain the specials and the availability of certain items. Most important of all, the food was amazing, my wife and I both had prime rib and it was melt in your mouth good. 10/10 would come back or recommend! (Drink in the photo is a "drinkable applesauce", think Poloma with a hint of apple. Cheers!
Excellent ambiance, great lunch venue with friends, and the best ever service from Evandro Bueno! I had the huge and delicious, perfectly prepared Bone In Ribeye. Worth every darn nickel, since pennies are not around anymore. Exceptional customer service from Evandro - courteous, friendly, and professional too! 5 Stars and 5 Thumbs Up for Evandro and for MacKenzie's Chop House downtown. We will be back - soon!
Absolutely cannot recommend MacKenzies enough! It’s set underneath a building and has an old time great gatsby vibe to it. The Our server Alex made the experience so amazing and gave us fantastic recommendations for appetizers and sides. Would highly recommend the french onion soup and creamy spinach with whatever you order. Will absolutely return and tell friends and family about this place.
So far the best bone-in ribeye steak I have tried. Perfectly seasoned and grilled to a perfect temperature. Service was fair, Atmosphere was very nice with an upscale touch but not too pricey. 5 stars for the chef!
