The pizza itself was pretty underwhelming, the dough was really spongy and soft, the sauce on their pesto cheese slice tasted very watered down as well. Not super impressed by the slices they have BUT. Their staff are super cool, had a great conversation with them while I was waiting for my food. They also keep a pretty clean kitchen, it's right there in public view and that's something I appreciate. Its a fine spot to go to when everything else is closed and you know you need something to take that drunken edge off.
I would give zero stars if possible. The customer service here is terrible, and seems to be ran by children. The quality of the food is worse. I ordered a vegi pizza from here that despite being on time arrived cold. Immediately i noticed that the thing was pretty pathetic looking. When i order a vegi pizza i expect large chunks of vegetables but this was all finly chopped into small bits like someone was preparing a salad for a rodent. Im positive that there vegetables are not fresh and come preprocessed out of a bag. Not what i would expect after coughing up 50 dollars for this thing. Anyway, I'm hungry and so we eat some . Well, on top of it being cold and pathetic, it ended up making me sick, almost instaint diarrhea, I imagine from the bulk processed pre chopped veggies that someone who doesnt wash their hands has contaminated, and also given me food poisoning. Nothing to serious but after spending so much money on this thing I was very disappointed. So I call in the next day to find the manager absent. I leave a message for "chris" to return my call. No call. I call again the next day. Same thing, apparently they only have a night manager who decides to wander in when ever he feels like it. So getting ahold of him is next to impossible. I call in again at 11 oclock at night and he's busy cutting pies the employee tells me as she tries to convince me not to bother with teying to get a refund. He was obviously ducking my call. I demand to talk to him anyway and explain everything. Im just trying to get a refund as I've had a bad experience. . He explains to me since we ate half of the pizza I will not be able to get a refund and then starts in a patronizing way to explaine, you broke it so now youve bought it, soto speak, and that by consuming half of something it is now yours and there is nothing he can do about it. So apparently I was supposed to have some sort of foresight into not eating it and therefore there would be enough pizza left so I could then drive it to them and get a refund. Oh yeah they make you drive the pizza back to them to get a refund, because they know, few people are actually going to take the time to do that. They refuse to stand behind their product and have adopted this business mentality of not giving a damn about the customer while charging top end price for subpar product.
Marilyn's Pizza is a nice spot to get a slice of people especially on a night out. It's off 20th and J down the street from the bars/clubs so it's convenient when you want some late food when you're already out. They haven't been open a super long time but they've made adjustments on how to make things run smoother. For example, they recently added a designation line and a sign stating "one customer in, one customer out". I think this is a good idea because they get really really busy! They have a decent sized menu with standard pricing for pizza in midtown. If you just want a slice you can come at any time but ordering whole pies should be done ahead of time if you can to avoid long waits (up to an hour). The pizza is good but I prefer other spots. The crust is great but the cheese isn't my favorite. They have a refrigerator full of drinks, only outdoor seating, and nice staff. Definitely recommend to try at least once. I know some people love this place and it's their go to so give it a go and see how you feel!
I decided to try this place out during Pride Month because I heard that it's LGBTQ owned. It's a small pizza place with limited outdoor seating. They had several pizza topping options, but surprisingly, they didn't have just pepperoni available. I got the pesto slice and cheese slice. Both were good, but they were a little greasy. The slices were a bit flimsy, but the cheese and sauce weren't sliding off. Out of all the NY-style pizza places that I've been to in the area, their prices for slices are the highest ($6 - $7 each). Some of the tables were dirty even though there were no customers. The flies were relentless, which made it unbearable to sit outside. The staff were chill. They do hand your pizza to you once it's ready.
My husband and I love New York Pizza. Definitely our favorite thing about living on the East Coast, but as my husband stated, this place rivals New York Pizza and I have to say I agree. I love their pesto garlic pizza and their BBQ chicken pizza. My husband loves their pep and cheese. We also love that you can buy a slice or a whole pie. It's definitely a must stop spot!
