I had the absolute pleasure of training with Janet for my Movement Principles, Reformer, Tower/Cadillac, Barrel and Chair courses, and she is one of the most knowledgeable and inspiring Balanced Body Educators I’ve ever met. Janet has an exceptional ability to break down complex movement principles into clear, practical instruction, making even the most advanced movements accessible. Janet’s understanding of anatomy, alignment, and movement patterns is outstanding, and she seamlessly connects these concepts to real-world application. Beyond Janet’s technical expertise, she brings a genuine passion for Pilates and the wider Pilates industry and always shares valuable insights that deepen your appreciation for the practice. Whether you’re a potential student, a fellow instructor, or someone looking to advance your teaching career, Janet is an incredible resource and role model in the Pilates community. Highly recommend!
I feel honoured to have Janet as my mentor and Balanced Body Instructor. From the start Janet has been open, friendly, great at communication, with a willingness to help me find success in my learning and teaching. She is an inspiration as a teacher and hugely knowledgeable. Her Pilates teaching style is beautiful too. I loved my online lessons with her. I look forward to doing the next part of my studies with her.
I recently completed pilates chair training with Janet and can confidently say, I truly enjoyed it. I was anxious being back in training after a long teaching break due to health issues, but Janet put me at ease right away. Janet has fantastic knowledge of Pilates and a real passion for teaching. Janet was able to break down movements that I couldn't quite get my head around, into clearer concepts. Within the group, I felt individual needs and abilities were really taken into account and I personally really appreciated this. I also really enjoyed the learning environment being so practical. Thank you so much!
Janet Wood is not just a Balanced Body educator; she is a true mentor, healer, and guide in the world of movement. My time learning under her was nothing short of transformative, thanks to her incredible patience, depth of knowledge, and genuine care for her students—both as learners and as movers. Janet’s teaching style is a rare blend of precision and warmth. She took the time to ensure every concept was thoroughly understood, never rushing through material, and always checking in to see if anyone needed further clarification. Her ability to break down complex anatomical and biomechanical principles into digestible, applicable knowledge was remarkable. Whether explaining movement patterns, joint articulation, or muscle engagement, she made sure we not only *heard* the information but *felt* it in our own bodies. One of the most valuable aspects of Janet’s instruction was her emphasis on assessing movement from all planes—sagittal, frontal, and transverse. She taught us how to observe subtle compensations, recognize imbalances, and tailor teaching strategies to each individual’s unique needs. Rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, she encouraged us to think critically: *How does this person move? Where are their restrictions? How can we help them move more efficiently and pain-free?* Her hands-on cueing techniques were exceptional, and she demonstrated how subtle adjustments—whether verbal, tactile, or visual—could make a profound difference in a client’s movement quality. Janet’s generosity extended far beyond the classroom. She graciously offered her home as a place to stay for out-of-town students (though I didn’t take her up on it, the gesture spoke volumes about her kindness). Each day, she prepared a healthy, delicious lunch, ensuring we were nourished and energized for the afternoon sessions. One particularly touching moment was when she surprised me with peanut butter Easter sweets after I mentioned craving peanut butter candy the day before. It was a small but deeply thoughtful act that highlighted how much she cared about her students' comfort and happiness. Her studio setup is both functional and inviting —upstairs, she has a dedicated Pilates space equipped with Balanced Body apparatus, ensuring a professional learning environment. She also provided snacks, water, and tea, making sure we felt at home. then there were her sphinx cats and adorable dog who occasionally made appearances to keep us on our toes (and provide some much-needed afternoon entertainment). Their presence added a playful, homey touch to the experience. Janet Wood is more than an educator—she’s a movement therapist, a mentor, and a genuinely compassionate human. Her ability to blend technical expertise with heartfelt teaching creates an environment where students thrive. Whether you’re a new instructor looking to build a strong foundation or an experienced teacher seeking deeper insight, Janet’s wisdom, patience, and nurturing approach make her an invaluable resource in the Pilates and movement community. I left her course not only with a wealth of knowledge but also with a profound appreciation for how she embodies the principles she teaches, balance, awareness, and connection. If you have the opportunity to learn from her, take it. You’ll walk away a better teacher—and perhaps a better person, too.
Just spent 4 days at Pilates training with Janet in her MI Studios Texas location. Expansive education, very knowledgeable, lovely studio and aesthetic and amazing hospitality. Highly recommended. Well worth the time and investment.
