Rumours is hands-down one of the best places in Durham to find pieces that make an event feel personal, elevated, and unforgettable. Every time I walk in, the shop feels warm, creative, and beautifully curated. You can tell the team cares about what they bring in — everything has texture, personality, and a story. I recently sourced several décor items and styling accents for a wedding, and every single piece from Rumours photographed perfectly. The condition of the items was excellent, the prices were fair, and the staff helped me think through options that fit my couple’s vibe. (I left feeling inspired and supported rather than rushed or upsold.) The customer service is consistently thoughtful — they answer questions honestly, give helpful suggestions, and make the whole experience feel easy. As a planner and designer, that means everything. When I use Rumours for an event, I know I’m bringing my clients pieces that are beautiful, reliable, and unique. If you’re looking for quality vintage, incredible finds, or décor with soul, Rumours is a gem. I’ve been going to rumors in Chapel Hill since they opened. I stopped here at the one in Durham for the first time ever and the employees were rude. I was NOT acknowledged not once my entire time while browsing in the store. Mind you it was at least 3 employees there at the time. Two at the cash wrap and one sitting down towards the back possibly near the fitting rooms. I will NEVER come back to this location! Prices are extremely too high for old, dingy, stained, 3rd hand re-thrifted clothing.
I've been shopping with these wonderful people online and in person (whenever travel allows it) for years and their customer service is always outstanding. It's so lovely to interact with staff who consistently go above and beyond for their customers! The energy they bring to the table is phenomenal and shipping is always fast whenever I have something sent to me. Thank you for always being so awesome, everyone should shop here if they have the chance!
Really enjoyed looking for new clothes here. Funky vibes, great music. There was a decent sized selection for a smaller space and fairly good prices overall. Two changing rooms monitored by staff. The staff was very helpful and I'm always glad to shop in local businesses.
rumors has a great selection of cute preloved clothes! as a plus size person it can be hard to find cute pieces for my body type but rumors pulls through and even offers incentives to other plus size sellers to promote better size inclusivity! love it :)
