Sarah, Kayla and their team moved in right next door to me where I work as a private practice social worker and their unique space is full of light, laughter and hair magic. I wanted to find a stylist who could do my hair around my nutty work schedule and Kayla certainly fit the bill. She has done highlights and cut expertly and calmly and I feel like I am a part of a beautiful, joyous and interesting environment where I feel cared for, appreciated and understood. Needless to say, I will be a return customer! I have been on the hunt for a new hairstylist for over a year. After some trial and error I was so happy to find Salon Bliss and Kayla! Kayla listens to what I’m looking to achieve with my colour and spends time to ensure the outcome is what I asked for. I’ve never been happier with my hair. The whole salon is such a great vibe - greeted warmly and just such a welcoming place. Would give them six stars if I could.
Had a terrible experience with who sounds like a receptionist rather than a stylist. To be fare, I booked very last minute so my expectations were low to start with. But I expected a junior stylist who'd have basic understanding about coloring roots. I got someone who argued with me the entire time. First, she insisted I need a different number from the one I requested (because the brand is different), then she said that coloring the roots at the front first (where it colors the fastest) is a standard procedure, and it is also dependent on the brand. As a result, I came put with almost black roots near my face, instead of natural blonde. Poor communication, and 0 knowledge of coloring techniques. I had to use a shampoo that stripped my toner and treatment off. Will not go back to this place.
I'm regretful to say this wasn't the greatest haircut I've had in Ottawa. I get a simple cut (medium length with some minor layering) and have finer hair. My cut was pretty choppy. The most challenging was I was asked if I wanted it dried straight or wavy, the latter usually meaning a blow dry with some gentle waving, I think she tried some sort of "curly method" with loads of mousse and a diffuser (I deffo dont have curly hair!). Truthfully, it looked like a crazy rats nest and I had to ask the stylist to smooth it out a bit before I felt comfortable leaving the salon. Even then it looked like a mess. Those with fine hair know, tons of product and aggressive styling methods just dont work for us. Perhaps a great place for artier styles, but my hair was a dry, tangled mess for days after. When I went to pay, the front desk ignored me for several minutes while they finished their conversation, but also acted like I was inconveniencing them. Maybe I caught them on a bad day? Edit: I’m grateful for your response and your openness. I did bring up my concerns at the time of my appointment, so I wanted to reflect that honestly for others. I know every place can have an off day.
I had a great experience with Sarah at Salon Bliss. I came in wanting a change but wasn’t totally sure what direction to go. She actually listened, asked smart questions, and suggested a cut that suits my face shape perfectly. I left feeling confident and amazing. She also pointed me toward products to help with my frizzy hair. And it worked: I didn’t have one frizzy day all summer. Sarah is exactly the kind of stylist you want: skilled, thoughtful, and easy to trust. Highly recommend.
