First time eating at this restaurant. Was expecting a sit down order but you order at a counter when you walk in. After looking over the menu we ordered 2 rolls of Sushi. One was the Cowboy roll and the other was a salmon sushi. The food was amazing and reasonable priced. Don't let ordering at the counter then sitting down keep you from trying going to this amazing restaurant.

Got in the door at 7:37p, to the register at 7:45p just to be told we couldn’t eat there because they close at 8p. We could only get an order to go! What?!? Never coming back, the food is just “ok” anyway. I’ll spend my money where it’s appreciated.

This was our very first time trying this restaurant. The ordering process was different with having to order first then finding your table. With that being the only hiccup to most other restaurants we really enjoyed our food,service, and the atmosphere. The food was incredible and all the servings were absolutely delicious and big servings in comparison to other Japanese style restaurants we have tried. The service was perfect. The atmosphere was great for a family dinner or even if you and a romantic evening was occurring. If we ever are in the area again we would definitely go back!! If you are into Different types of Sake then this is place to be. I have not ever seen this many types of Sale in one place that has descriptions like this. It was fun flipping through all of these to learn about Sake!!!

UPDATED REVIEW- First, I rarely write negative reviews. In this case we received poor service at the counter and at our table. For starters, the cashier tried 2x to usher us out of line to "go get a table and come back to order". This was not necessary, the restaurant was not busy. Once we ordered and took a table the server came by. She only delivered 2 wasabi/ginger sides while there were 4 of us. I had to ask for 2 more. All the food came out at various times---- 15 minutes in between. Very long wait, some of us finished their lunch before the other food items were delivered. Servers were not immediately in the dining area, so no one was checking us. Food was average. Did they change owners? Complete change in staffing? I noticed reduced star ratings. I'm baffled as I am disappointed. There are way too many other places to have sushi and this will no longer be on my list.

When you walk in there's a line to the counter. You place your order and pay before you sit down to eat, it's a little unorthodox but it works. My wife and I orderer the 50/50 roll and the i-scream roll, both were amazing!! Sushi is one of those things where it's either great or it's not, happy to say we lucked out finding this place since we're not from Stockton. Would not pass up ShoMi if you're in the area.
