If you live local and you're thinking of buying a book for someone online, DON'T USE AMAZON - try here first! If they have it in stock they will hold it for you to pick up, or if they don't have it they can usually order it! I haven't had a case yet where they haven't been able to order in a book I've wanted. Support a local business! The people are friendly, the shop is cute, they have staff-recommended items on each shelf, and very LGBTQ+ friendly and supportive. Their email newsletter has info on all of their book clubs (of which there are many) - eventually I will participate in one, just haven't had a chance to yet! There are several monthly book clubs for a good variety of different genres. Caboose (their children's book shop right next door) also has a ton of programming for kids and families!
Wow!! One of the most memorable bookshops I have ever visited!! What I loved about Sidetrack Bookshop is the curated collection of books and bookish accessories. Sidetrack is conveniently located in downtown Royal Oak with plenty of street and paid parking options. Sidetrack has a wide variety of literary offerings and a friendly, welcoming staff.
My mom and I had the best time going to this store. We went for my 21 birthday and the kind ladies at checkout made my day by throwing some goodies in my bag when I wasn't looking. Such a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere to be in and a great selection. Loved the staff picks and awesome book marks and stickers. Definitely will be returning one day. Thank you for making my birthday special :)

4.5⭐️ (.5 missing because small spaces get packed quickly and can become difficult to navigate) I finally made time to stop into Sidetrack Bookstore. I found parking around the block on the street, though Royal Oak has PLENTY of parking garages as well. The staff was very friendly and greeted me when I walked in! First impressions , we love a cute bookstore and it's clear the staff takes pride in decorations and displays. Book sections are clearly labeled by genre, countless staff recommendations cards throughout. I didn't buy any books in the main store, but they have a kid's store next door (The Caboose). This is such a clean and bright environment , and I would imagine I'd love it if I was a kid! Megan provided great and helpful recommendations for an upcoming baby shower, I'm sure my gift will be a hit! 10/10 , would recommend again !
