Nick at The Nines was very helpful and they had some absolute hidden gems at the store. Highly recommend
This place is DANGEROUS!!! Every time I stop by or catch an IG story sale, I can’t restrain myself from purchasing at least one item. The Nines does an incredible job sourcing a range of brands, styles, and sizes, plus they take care to set prices within an accessible range. The store is gorgeous and really easy to shop around too, and it seems like it’s constantly refreshed. Seriously, don’t go if you don’t want to find everything your closet (heart) desires.
After much thought, I’ve decided to share my experience, both so others can be cautious and for the owners’ awareness. I’ve really enjoyed vintage shopping from The Nines in the past and had previously purchased items through their Instagram story sales when something truly caught my eye. However, my most recent purchase left me disappointed and has made me hesitant to shop this way again. I bought a vintage purse from a story sale because the colour was exactly what I had been looking for, the style looked great in the photos, and the bag appeared to be in good condition. When I picked it up and later had the chance to look at it more closely at home, I noticed several issues that weren’t visible or disclosed in the photos. There were white scuff marks around the bag, cracks in the leather along the edges of the opening, and signs of poor craftsmanship on the inside, including visible dried glue marks. I considered reaching out for a refund since these flaws weren’t shown or mentioned. Even though the bag was only $40, its condition didn’t feel reflective of that price, and I honestly wouldn’t feel right reselling it myself. Unfortunately, because there is a no-refund policy for story sales, I accepted it as a learning experience.
Edit: One of the store employees confronted me about this review and asked me to reconsider what I said and I said no, I stand by it. He told me it was harsh and I was being mean to a small business and posting slander about them. I politely told him I understand why he is upset and I am not telling him he's not allowed to be upset but I am also allowed to feel the way that I feel and to be vocal about it. He kept insisting that I delete this because it wasn't fair "just because I showed up and the store was closed without checking the hours" and I had to point out I hadn't driven actually. He pointed out that I was still shopping here which was true and I was honest and said it was such a hassle that I'm probably just not going to. He then told me good and to never come back. Like okay. I'm frankly baffled at this interaction because I wasn't demanding a discount or anything for free and I was polite to the employees when I showed up to pick up my shirt. And I'm not sure why he bothered asking me about this if he was unprepared to be unhappy with my answer. Anyway, at the end of the day it's whatever, this was just absurd. --- I really want to like this place but shopping here is such an irritating experience. The employees are perfectly lovely and the store is clean but this place is the physical equivalent of shopping on depop. They're constantly charging insane prices for second hand clothes someone else has sweat in and it's not as if the majority of it is even silk or 100% wool etc., it's all polyester but because it's from 1994 it's somehow worth a 200% mark up. They spend more time closed than they do open every time I have to check their opening hours because every single time I DON'T the place is always closed and seemingly the store hours are just going to get worse. God forbid it's a stat holiday. Do you know how absurd it is to show up to a place in the middle of the week in the middle of the day and have it be closed???? Not to mention the look on people's faces when I'm telling them about it??? Soon they'll be open on the third Thursday of every month for 30 minutes only. It's nice that they offer free in store pick up if you buy something online except of course they are seemingly always closed. "But you can order it to your house!" it's already humiliating enough when I am willing to be extorted for a skirt, paying for shipping would be salt in the wound.
Amazing vintage store. My fave in the city. The owner is so friendly and helpful. You can tell she puts a lot of time and effort into finding stunning pieces for the store. I also always look forward to the vintage rodeo that is put on every year, I have found some stunning pieces! This is exactly what a curated vintage store should be, beautiful items at fair prices !
