Tim was an excellent repairman for my laptop. The screen/display had gone on the fritz because of an unfortunate fall, and I was admittedly stressed because I'm attached to this laptop. He was earnest with me, explained the display itself would need replacement and how much it'd likely cost, including letting me know about the potential risk associated with this kind of fix. Repair was cheaper (final price was $260 iirc) than buying one, so I agreed, and within a few days the work was complete with no further issue!! He even went to the trouble of checking that the camera worked, which required disabling my security settings, which he reverted to normal after the fact. It's been a little over 2 weeks now, and it's working wonderfully!

I drove 80 minutes from New Hampshire to The BYTE Shop, in hopes that Tim, the owner, could fix a laptop with intermittent charging failures. No one in my area offers component level board repair, so Boston was my closest option. I'm very pleased to say that my time was not wasted, and I would gladly make the drive again for future repairs at The BYTE Shop. Tim was able to assess the laptop quickly, and provided me with a very clear and through explanation of what he thought the odds were that it could be fixed successfully, about 90%. He offered me a very fair quote to repair, and I left the laptop with him so he could order the replacement charging port. He completed the work quickly, and over a week later, rhe repairs he made are holding up perfectly, and I'm sure they will stand the test of time. I really appreciate that Tim was able to save my laptop for the price of a skilled USB-C port repair, rather than spending almost five times as much to directly replace the entire machine. Tim was just super easy to work with, with at every step of the experience. I will absolutely be recommending his work to anyone who needs a computer repaired in the future. The five stars are well deserved. Also, this is a secondary consideration, but if you are a fan of vintage microcomputers, especially some of the rarer Apple models, The BYTE Shop has a showroom full of excellent examples that you can examine up close. I could have wasted an hour more than I had, just looking them over. Definitely check it out.
