After weeks of planning and visiting multiple aquarium shops, within moments we knew this was the store for us! The owner(not putting names as sometimes reviews are flagged for that) showed an unbelievable amount of care and patience. He took us through all the in and outs. Showed us a range of equipment, both in size and cost. And listened and answered to the million of questions we had. We ended up buying everything we needed there as it felt like we were working with someone we could trust. On our second visit he has another person who worked there that was equally as knowledgeable and helpful! Thank you guys!!! You’ve made this so fun and exciting!! ALSO WE HAD SOME RANDOM SNAILS APPEAR AND WE ARE SO HAPPY!!!!
Amazing experience at Fish Barn! Fish Barn is hands down THE BEST LFS I’ve been to. The staff here are incredibly friendly and genuinely passionate about what they do, they take the time to answer questions, offer advice, and make sure you leave with exactly what you need. Their fish selection is fantastic, with a wide variety of healthy, vibrant fish that are clearly well cared for. It's a small operation, and they can get extremely busy, so if you visit during a busy period be patient because the wait is well worth it.
The staff is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and friendly. The inventory of livestock is complete and have everything you need except niche stuff like discus. Also, a huge bonus, they don't stock morally bankrupt species like red-tail cats and pacu. They stock good quality products at completely fair prices, I don't find the need to check online prices. Highly recommended.
Such an amazing store to be able to have here in the SF Bay Area. One of the few that not just shows but you get the vibe of enthusiasm, passion, love & dedication in every nook and cranny to the place. AJ is such spectacular guy, his personality makes you feel right at home walking in. Gives the best advice tips and tricks to keeping fish/plants and the best accessories need to help you thru your fish keeping journey. Definitely a place to stop by get some quality fish/plants/accessories for anything in your desired wants or needs!
A Hidden Gem for Aquarists! The Fish Barn in Orinda is hands down one of my favorite fish stores. A.J., the owner, is incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to share his expertise. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned aquarist, you'll leave feeling more confident and excited about your tank. This shop is truly a boutique experience—clean, well-organized, and stocked with high-quality products you don’t typically find at big-box stores. The selection of live plants is especially impressive, with vibrant, healthy specimens that thrive once planted. And the fish? Absolutely beautiful. Healthy, active, and clearly well cared for. Customer service here is top-notch. A.J. and J both take the time to answer questions and make sure you're set up for success. If you're in the East Bay and into freshwater aquariums, The Fish Barn is a must-visit.
