My son has been taking drum lessons for about a year at VMA and has loved the experience. The school runs a tight ship and has thought of so many details that make it a smooth and effective experience for everyone. Their communication is excellent in regards to school updates through email, lesson summaries given in person and online, and thoughtful reminders for lesson times. I also love the flexible options for days my son has to miss in person lessons. They even have a motivational rewards system in place to help the kids advance in their level and skills! I recommend the school whole heartedly!
I can’t say enough good things about Vancouver Music Academy. It is the only extracurricular my son (9 years old) never wants to skip, he loves it. Every single person, from front desk staff to instructors to the people behind the scenes, is so kind, thoughtful, and well organized. My son plays piano with Robert, and Robert really makes music fun and meets students where they’re at. I love the way he finds music my kid is into, from video games to the song my son heard on the radio that week, and balances it with classics. Heck, even with the classics, Robert finds a way to tie it into popular culture that makes it relevant to my kid’s personality and interests. VMA checks in regularly to make sure lessons are meeting our needs in terms of rigor and instruction and they’re very communicative. The recitals are well put together, optional, and low stress. My son loves the opportunity to perform and show his friends and family what he’s been up to. We are so happy we found this place. After a year and half, his progress and love for his instrument has only grown. Can’t wait to see what the next year brings!
I have two daughters that have been with the school for about a year. Everyone there is friendly and welcoming. We've been through 4 different instructors, and I've been impressed by every one of them. Their methods are unique, interesting and genuine, I often learn new things when I attend lessons with them, and im not the kind of person who often hears something I've never already considered before. They all obviously are compassionate about music, knowledgeable, and confident, gentle but firm enough that the lessons never seem like a waste of time. My older daughter started with bass guitar, then switched to guitar, and once she gained enough confidence and skull to be able to play music with others, they included her in a rock band. The thing that's really outstanding about this program is that they have live concerts scheduled to play at restaurants and the like. There's also more than one band that meet together for practice through the academy. So if anyone feels like the particular group isn't for them, they have the option to try another. This place is full of people who truly care, and I'd recommend it to anyone who's interested in learning to play music.
My 9 year old daughter joined VMA in December to receive vocal lessons from Stuart. She was previously receiving vocal lessons at a different music school, and since switching the progress she has made with her singing is exponential. She is excelling under Stuart’s leadership and has been loving her lessons with him. All the staff at VMA have been wonderful and are so friendly and supportive! Highly recommend!
Dylan and Gus have been exceptional teachers for my son. They meet him at his ability and stretch him to learn the foundations and cultivate a space to provide a unique and customized session. Highly reccomend them!!!
