We brought our one-eyed rescue dog to VCA, as he had a very bad cataract in his eye when we adopted him. The staff were helpful but during our numerous consultations and pre-op visits, we were told that the procedure had a 95%+ success rate and that there should be no issue for our little guy. After spending close to $10,000 on the surgery and follow ups, the vet couldn't figure out why his eye pressure wasn't going down. We were then informed that the cataract surgery had triggered secondary glaucoma - something that was never mentioned as a possible risk when we were discussing the surgery. Now, less than a year after having his cataract removed, the glaucoma has gotten so painful that he has to have an enucleation at our local vets. Pet owners, please make sure to ask about this risk if you are seeking ophthalmic care for your fur baby.
I had to bring my Golden in after he ate socks and they got lodged in his stomach. Initially I had gone to my vet but in light of what the xrays showed it was felt that it was in my dog's best interests to go to the emergency hospital. They were expecting us. Sonny was taken in immediately whereupon steps were take to assess him. I met with Dr M. MacIsaac who was not only reassuring but extremely kind and very professional outlining all the options and what she felt were the best for my pooch. The doctor called me later in the day and again in the evening to eep me informed. Surgery was avoid as scope retrieval was able to be carried out thus avoiding invasive surgery. This new facility is State of the Art and a very "hospitable"..pun intended place to be. I knew my dog was in the best place and that gave me great peace. Thank you VCA Canada Alta Vista Animal Hospital for taking such great care of my fur baby. p.s. the "free" coffee and tea were great and much needed and an abundance of snacks were available from the machines at a reasonable cost. I will also add that the exam rooms had windows and it was not claustrophobic!!! A huge bonus for me when you're already stressed out.
Spent the night here with my rescued English Bulldog for breathing issues after a swimming mishap. He is stranger reactive and does not like to be touched (abuse case), making him a challenging patient to treat. The entire team here was AMAZING with him (and with me) and he had outstanding care. I am so grateful to you all. Hope not to be back (lol) but if we return, I know we are in good hands. Thank you.
They are professional, caring and accommodating. They have saved my pets a lot of suffering by being on top of the game with new treatments and innovations. And, they have a 24 hour emergency hospital. I wouldn’t go anywhere else, they’re the best!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this emergency animal hospital! From the moment I walked in, I was incredibly nervous about my furbaby Athena, but the staff immediately put me at ease with their kindness and professionalism. They treated Athena with such care, compassion, and expertise—it was clear she was in the best hands possible. Every step of the way, they communicated with me and made sure I understood what was happening, which helped calm my worries. Athena was cared for like she was their own, and I’m so grateful for the gentle and thorough attention she received. This team is truly amazing, and I would recommend them to anyone who needs emergency care for their beloved pets.
