I go here often and the establishment is nice and well kept but the elderly have taken over the pool with their work out and will be in both pool lrg n sm. Then complain if a kid splashes them when the can switch to a calmer area with others working out
been going to this Y off and on for over 10 years. it’s certainly gone downhill since covid. no one uses the pool or spa anymore as they still implement covid-era reservation policies. today a lifeguard that’s been there at least 7 years, i know him and he knows me, comes up and says “hey man, it’s 15 minute limit for the hot tub. you’ve been in there about 20”. ig he was bored and j wanted to say something to someone. i’m a fit man in my mid-30s. i’ve been to gyms, spas, and sat in jacuzzis all over the world the last 15 years. i’ve never, ever had anyone tell me to get out of the hot tub after 15 minutes. laughable, uncomfortable, and largely psychotic behavior. if you’re bored walk around the pool deck or start cleaning, bro. don’t EVER come at me like that. busted Y, cold showers, terrible pool schedule, dead scene. onward Santa Monica…
Scummy, predatory gym practices. I was getting charged for months because they didn't let me cancel my membership online because my account was "suspended". My account was suspended because I never set foot in the gym. They were getting money out of me for nothing. The day after I got charged I finally went in for the first time to cancel. The desk rep assured me everything was taken care of. Fast forward to now and they're STILL charging me. They've created these BS blockades to extract not 1 but TWO more months out of me, despite already getting hundreds of dollars out of me for nothing for several months prior. And I told the rep that the first time I went in-person. YMCA is no family or community established it's a for-profit gym business just like all the rest of them, and they will prey on your money with nefarious practices all the same.
UPDATE: 10/30/24 Pòols closed. THIS app does not allow U 2 do an additional review. So I have 2 put the new review above the old.I was intending 2 write a review on yesterday giving 4⭐️. Because 4 the months I had been complaining, finally 6/4/2024 the water was warmed up N the lap pool. They said the heater was fixed (Well I had been telling U 4 months!!!). 6/5/2024 We came 4 R 4 p.m reservation. There was a sign posted @ the front desk:Lap pool, open swim,& jacuzzi R closed.Jacuzzi will open @ 7 p.m (The building closes @ 8 p.m.).I am fed up w/ the practices @ this YMCA.As U can see by my previous review they had been closed from 11/26/2023-3/20/2024.The open swim & jacuzzi opened back up on 3/18/2024. Nonetheless, the water area of the place was closed for 3 months & 3 weeks.I used the pool 4 no other reason but the lap pool. However since the reopening of the pool(s).They have closed the pool 2-3 other times that I can recall.U would think 3 mo. 3 wks. would B more than enough time 2 take care of any repairs & concerns. I don't recall this happening under the previous administration. On 3/20/2024,I went that 1 day & then the lap pool closed again the next day & was closed for about a week. I don't normally go on Saturday. But since I had not been able 2 go due 2 closure when they were open on Saturday & raining,I was happy 2 go on 3/30/2024. Besides this 3 month & 3 wk closure there was just 1 other time that the pool closure was input into the YMCA app notifications. Which prevents the inconvience of the patron showing up 4 their reservation during a pool closure. There is no earthly reason Y when they have this app notification available 2 them that it is not standard operating procedure 2 input the info 2 notifications everytime there is a closure. On 5/21/2024 Pool(s) closed due 2 the heater went out.Not often do they tell U Y the pool is closed, but this is only 1 time I received a call from Sweet Dawn @ the Y telling me that my 4 p.m, slot was canceled due 2 closure.I had been telling them 4 months that the water N the lap pool was cold,& it was not up 2 the same temperature as it had been when I first began to come (October or November 2021).It's as if they don't pay attention 2 what U R saying,R don't care.I was told N April 2 of the lifeguards that had been there prior to the 3 mo. 3wk closure had been fired (I wondered where they were) because 1 went 2 the bathroom while the other 1 covered the 2 positions. If that's true, what process is N place 4 lifeguards 2 use the bathroom if needed? IF there is none, they certainly need 2 get 1.That is bad supervision & bad management all the way 2 the top. What if a lifeguard had a medical illness R disability that occurred while poolside. If the uplink did not plan R have an advance protocol 4 such a time it certainly would B a reflection on their inexperience of something so easily remedied. Matter of fact,I have observed a couple of times in the last 7 days 1 lifeguard going 2 the bathroom or leaving the floor 4 a time while other covered.Girl's shower still is cold. Also taking the benches from the open swim area is disrespectful. OLDER REVIEW:Frontline staff R friendly & helpful.Very clean facility.I go 4 the pool,@ 1st weight loss. Now rehabilitating knee replacements.Girl's showers on the 1st floor have been cold 4 a very long time. I've brought it 2 the attention of the manager by email repeatedly, still not fixed. The women's shower on the 2nd floor hot water works. But I don't use the stairs because of my knees.Water would drip from the pool, down the hallway 2 the elevator,& on the elevator & walk through 2nd floor exercise machine area 2 the locker room.I am more sensitive 2 other people's needs. Update: Pool was shutdown after Thanksgiving 2023,said 2 open 1/8/2024. As that date approached then it was said will open 2/1.It didn't.Now approaching 3/1 the new date 2 open.Nothing on the app, no reservation slots open.I didn't mind so much paying & not going 4 1 month.1 mention about the closure N January newsletter No photos, nothing. This is a lousy way 2 operate.
