The food is good, but not a lot of options. A half page of tacos, another half page of enchiladas and some ceviches and you're through most of the menu... two best things we got were the fish tacos and chile relleno. More of a clean bar/restaurant with good energy than a restaurant- similar to Mas Taco.
Amazing food. Amazing service. I went with my mother. The chips for appetizers were nice and hot, a sign they were just made, and the black beans and salsa it came with were great. I ordered the garlic shrimp tacos, and my mom ordered the pozole soup. The tacos were delicious and the pozole was too. For desert we had the flan, which was amazingly sweet and nice to eat, and the churros, which were honestly a disappointment. The churros came with ice cream, so I assume they weren't so heated as to melt it, but it's something I usually like to eat hot. The place is also surprisingly cheap too. We'll worth the price
The food was chef's kiss. I ordered the burrito norteño wet and my husband ordered the enchiladas mole, and for dessert we had to try the churros. The service was fantastic. The restaurant itself was beautiful. Oh, and don't sleep on the blackberry margarita - it is soooo good! We will definitely be back!
3.5 stars. I know they have a lot of good reviews and even some dishes mentioned on the Michelin Guide, but we just weren't impressed that much. My husband has seen a waiting line going out to the door at times, so we were excited about the menu. We came here on a Sun evening and got seated immediately. We didn't get any drinks so I can't comment on their cocktails. For food, we ordered the Zocalo quesadilla with chicken and the Michelin Guide recommended En Mole enchiladas with 2 enchiladas. We got complimentary chips with salsa and beans for the table. The chips and salsa were ok. Salsa was not too spicy. The Zocalo quesadilla was anything but simple. It was more of a burrito - cheese, beans and chicken stuffed into a tortilla, which was then smothered in a delicious tasting cilantro based sauce. The whole thing was delicious but heavy. The sauce was everything on that plate. The accompanying rice and beans were just ok. The rice was a little dry. The en mole enchiladas was also pretty big. The mole was very sweet, which I didn't like. The enchiladas was fine but the sweet mole put me off. My husband liked it more than me so he ended up eating most of that plate and we took the quesadilla home. Pricing wise, the restaurant is medium. There are some really pricey restaurants in the area, but these guys are more reasonable. Ambiance is bright, spacious and lavishly elegant. If you plan to drive, you will need to spend some time looking for parking. There is only metered street parking in the area.
As a Latino couple, we usually avoid restaurants that serve generic Tex-Mex food — but Zócalo truly surprised us! The flavors were authentic and well-balanced, definitely passing our taste test. We were seated right away, and the service throughout the evening was friendly and attentive. The steaks were juicy, tender, and full of flavor, and even the beans stood out — rich and well-seasoned. Overall, a great dining experience that exceeded our expectations. We’ll definitely be back!
