I've really enjoyed finding a good dentist in SLC who doesn't try to upsell you on work that is not actually needed. It is so refreshing after having gone to a few places that seemed really scammy. The office is very clean as well which is a huge plus in my book. The staff is truly wonderful, always so helpful and kind. If you are looking for a good dentist I'd absolutely recommend!

After several years of coming here and reading various reviews, I’ve finally decided to share my own experience. While some of the staff are knowledgeable — Dr. Johnson, in particular, is kind and professional — overall, the staff often seem unsure and inconsistent. Dr. Porter, unfortunately, has been extremely rough and dismissive in my interactions with him. He tends to be evasive when asked about treatments and doesn’t provide clear or straightforward answers. One of the most frustrating aspects is the inconsistency. Each visit seems to come with a new opinion or recommendation, making it hard to feel confident in their care. When you try to ask questions or seek clarification, you're often met with vague or shifting responses. The location itself is nice, but the customer service — especially at the front desk — leaves a lot to be desired.

I agree with some of the other reviewers. While there might be things to like about this dentist practice, their aggressive recommendations border on dishonest. Avenues Dentistry tole me I would need a crown, and two teeth around the cavity would also need treatment. I declined, went to my normal dentist - who has been a dentist for 35 years (but is a further drive, which is why I was looking for something closer). My dentist took 20 minutes to fill a ‘small cavity that’s no big deal’. So glad I didn’t go with the Avenues recommendation.

0/10 do not recommend: Porter was very unkind, dismissive, and frankly a liar. When he came in to do my fillings he didn’t even speak to me, didn’t tell me what was going on, and the assistant relayed to me that I have multiple extremely bad cavities and oral health overall. The front desk where you pay intentionally is misleading and avoidant on telling you your total so they can overcharge you. This dentist office said I had more cavities than I actually did - I finally got the courage to go to a different dentist (extreme anxiety surrounding the dentist) and not only does my new/current dentist office have amazing customer service, but they also told me I have less and not as deep cavities with otherwise great oral health. I did not initially tell them how many cavities my previous dentist (Ave Dentistry) said I had, so I trust their diagnosis. Save money and live better by going elsewhere!

I usually write positive reviews, but my experience with Dr. Porter was frustrating. While the dental work turned out great—he matched my front crowns well—his attitude was problematic. When I arrived and informed them I wanted a different procedure, he threw what I can only describe as a tantrum, telling me to “go somewhere else” and appearing visibly upset. I realize I should have called in advance to change the 4-hour booking—that was my mistake and I will own that. Still, his outburst and guilt-tripping made the appointment uncomfortable. Though he later apologized, it felt insincere, and I left feeling more like an inconvenience than a valued patient. Being a professional means more than being good at your craft, it means treating people with respect and dignity and Dr. Porter does not possess those skills in the slightest. A professional would have understood my position and worked WITH me to make me more comfortable and helped to address my qualms and reservations, certainly not shamed me into doing something for which I was not prepared. Edit: Dr Porter called me today and offered a much more sincere apology. It takes a big person to own up to their mistakes and I truly believe he was acting out of character yesterday. He offered empathy and made sure I was feeling ok (both physically and mentally). I'm changing from a 2 star to a 4 star. Thank you for reaching out.
