Come every year for the Nutcracker ballet. But seems it less and less about the experience and more about the profit. Performance was great as per usual but less time before the show and no cast members after the show and always rushing you out. Over the years it has gotten more and more obvious. Sad I might start to change my family tradition of this keeps up.
This was a beautiful and energetic performance of the Houston Ballet. The space/palace is ornate and tasteful at the same time. The staff is welcoming and helpful. The patrons were super friendly this evening. The attire was mostly holiday, festive and varied from formal to casual - holiday time. The Brown is one of two theaters in The Wortham complex. The performance was, OMG. Our seats in the Grand Tier gave us a perfect view of amazing abilities of this top tier academy for a reasonable price. Acoustics were perfect for both the live and recorded music. We could also hear the stomps and taps that were part of the performance. There are some pre-theater dining and libations options in the Wortham and with relatively reasonable prices. The Nutcracker souvenirs were easily accessible without bumping into other browsers/buyers. One can take drinks in the theater when using the special, reusable sippy souvenir cups or the bottled water. Parking: We used the underground city event parking for $18 with a direct entrance to the tunnel below the Wortham. Park across the street at the Alley for $12. The Wortham theater remains one of the top venue for the performing arts. Whether you are a local or visitor, a trip the a performance here is definitely recommended. Enjoy!
The Wortham Theater has seen better days. The main elevators do not work properly and takes time to open. The escalators do not always work. There are too many stairs and seating levels that cannot be accessed without taking stairs which can be an issue for individuals with mobility issues.
To attend this magnificent theater in the heart of downtown Houston is to immerse yourself in a highly refined sensory experience. From the first step, the atmosphere envelops you with its architectural elegance, a perfect prelude to what promises to be a memorable evening. The always cordial and attentive staff guides the audience with a blend of professionalism and genuine warmth. The opera, with impeccable staging, achieves a perfect fusion of art, technique, and emotion. The acoustics of the venue are simply sublime: every note, every sigh, is perceived with moving clarity. The vibrant and precise orchestra masterfully sustains the narrative, elevating each act to levels of excellence. In short, a tribute to the performing arts that dignifies Houston's cultural life.
Went to Sound of Music as well as West Side Story. Sound, acoustics and acting are A+. The orchestra is amazing. Love the refreshment area - you can reserve a drink for intermission (albeit they are not cheap). They leave it on a table with your name. No waiting in line. Beautiful building, inside and out. Can’t wait to see another play there.
