Bob and his team are an excellent family run business. I bought an inner tube from them and changed my dad’s flat tire with some tips from them. They let me borrow their tire levers and were helpful, kind, and encouraging. Nice guys, would recommend my friends to see them.
Rude and worst customer service and high prices! Went in with my son for a flat tire and the guy was like - I won’t even touch it! What he offered was a jacked up quote of $350+ for tune up and a rip off level parts replacement - here’s the kicker - I told him I bought the bike there and he’s like I don’t care. Went to Wheel Away in Campbell - so much better, friendly and prompt service. Never ever am I going back there - bought 2 bikes in the past for my kids and sorry that I gave them so much business. These guys need to fire this person and other rude workers there. They need to get some real customer service - otherwise, they will need to go out of business QUICKLY!
I just purchased my bike from Calabazas Cyclery and I couldn’t be happier with the service. Informative, clear communication and personality. I would recommend.
So in 2019, I’m working on a project trike, and I bought new wheels for my pre-existing hubs. I asked if they could take the existing hubs and put them on the brand new wheels. There was a nice gentleman there that helped me and had initially honored the request. Pandemic hits, and everything closes. Everything became by appointment only, the guy’s son took over, and every time I call, the son says “I’ve got a lot of work to catch up on”, and “you’re next up on my list bro…. call me back in two weeks.” I would call back and the cycle would repeat over and over and over. I was quite patient with this guy…. Seeing as how this was a project and wasn’t in an incredible rush. Second year goes by and in fact, I even went down several times to get the status of the build, and he even managed to upsell me into new hubs… said they would work better, that it would be more stable, etc. etc. etc. blah blah blah… I agree to the new hubs(which I didn’t mind paying for) and proceeds to tell me that he needs more time to complete the build, as he will need to have special work done on the third hub, which is the drive wheel etc..etc. More time goes by, more phone calls for status updates and more excuses…. “I’ve got a plan for this… you’re next up on my list…. Give me two weeks and I’ll have it done.” He even goes so far as to say “the work will be on me, I’ll do the work for free since it’s been so long”. Third year goes by and I’m through with this guy’s blatant lies…. He’s clearly has no intention of finishing the project. I go to pick up the wheels, and sure enough…. He charges me for the hubs(which I had no problem paying for, I’m not looking for free parts) but he also charged me for work on two completed wheels and scribbles some nonsense idea of how I can finish the third wheel if I have a steel wedge made that goes inside the third hub. 🙄👌🏼ok guy. I’ve now taken his idea to three different bike shops, and no one seems to understand what he’s really talking about or why he chose to do it in this manner. I’m going to end up spending another $1200-$1500 bucks just to get the wheels completed, unless I want to scrap the new hubs and start over using the old ones. Basically, I seriously think this guy may be on drugs. Made no sense, didn’t deliver on any of his promises, wasted three years on this project, and to be perfectly honest, I should’ve taken him to small claims. I just don’t have the time, energy or the patience to deal with anyone’s lies anymore. Don’t use this guy. Seriously. Don’t use him. Cars get built in years… not tricycles. If you’re still on the fence as to whether to use this place or not, consider that with as many bad reviews as this place gets, there has to be a degree of truth to all of them. My honest opinion, stay away. Whatever talent existed in this place at one point, is now long gone. The apple has fallen far from the tree. These are pictures from the two wheels that he actually did manage to build, which are decent work, and the video is of him, actually searching for all of my parts, which he had under a gigantic pile of boxes, and other stuff hidden out of sight. 🤡
Came in Sunday about half an hour after they opened. Despite being slammed, Bob helped me diagnose an issue with the rear shifter (after checking the derailleur with me). He was extremely helpful and courteous and made me feel like he sincerely wanted to help me fix my problem the whole time. They were too busy to take a further look at the bike in the back, but this gave me the information I needed to deal with the shifter issue myself (at least for now). As Bob was finishing up with helping me with the shifter (all the help was for free!), I asked for some tire recommendations and I just finished installing them tonight. Can't wait to go for a ride! (edit: I did NOT buy the bicycle here)
