They've made some changes to process people quicker. It was actually a fairly pleasant experience. The key is to make an appointment ahead of time.

I went to the Driver’s License Renewal office on Leestown Road for my Real ID, and I was honestly surprised by how easy and efficient the whole process was. I made an online appointment for 11:00 a.m., arrived about 10:45, and they called me back within 10 minutes. I was completely finished and walking out just a couple minutes after 11, with everything updated for the next eight years. The staff was friendly, the service was smooth, and the hospitality was great. Very impressed.

Went yesterday to get my husband’s license transferred from out of state and even though we had all the documents needed we were yelled at right off the bat and sent away. Scheduled an appointment for today and went back with extra copies of everything and Geneva was so kind and efficient. Best experience I’ve ever had at the DMV. The difference between yesterday and today was night and day. I didn’t even have time to catch the name of whoever was supposed to help us yesterday but I was extremely disappointed, especially because my husband and I are not the type of people to cause a scene or act rudely and we were just shocked at the behavior of the woman yesterday. So grateful that there are people like Geneva who can make up for the poor behavior of others. Anytime we need to go back to the DMV in the future we will be hoping and praying to get Geneva’s help again because that woman is a saint.

Skip the Lexington office—go to Richmond instead! I needed to renew my driver’s license (not a Real ID and no vision screening required) and first tried the Lexington office as a walk-in. My ticket showed I was 8th in line, but after a couple of hours I had only moved up to 5th. Even people with appointments were voicing frustrations, and the staff there seemed overwhelmed and disorganized. I left and went to the Richmond office instead—best decision! With no appointment, I was in and out in just 15 minutes. The staff were efficient, friendly, and made the whole process easy. I’ll definitely stick with Richmond from now on.

I came here to renew my drivers license. They accept walk in appointments. However, their system doesn’t show up the waiting time! Therefore, it’s been almost 5 hours that I am waiting here with a toddler! Additionally, this place restroom doesn’t have changing tables! The employees are nice, btw! There is a beautiful lake here as well where you can wait, but definitely not in a hot weather!
