Ethos Music Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to making music education accessible and inspiring for youth and families in Portland. For over two decades, we've provided a warm, nurturing environment where students of all ages can explore their musical talents through private lessons, group classes, ensembles, and youth theater camps. Our passionate instructors offer personalized guidance across a wide range of instruments and styles, fostering creativity and confidence. With scholarship opportunities and a commitment to community, Ethos creates a supportive space where every student can thrive and discover the joy of music.
I went here about fifteen years ago for choir and piano and the memories of this place are some of my fondest from my childhood. It’s nice to see that they’re still open and consistently providing musical education to the PDX area youth.
Building community through music is Ethos Music Center’s mission, and they do it beautifully. This creative space offers Youth Theater Camps throughout the year, complete with scholarship opportunities for families. I visited for the first time on Saturday, August 9th, to see the adaptation play of Umi, Rainbow River’s Great Inventor by Cesili Williams. After the show, the kids and families had the chance to meet the author herself. My friend’s daughter and son attended the theater camp and performed in the end-of-year production, Umi and the Great Strawberry Mystery. Let’s just say… now I want to be a green unicorn! The building sits on a corner, with entrances from both Killingsworth and Williams. It’s two stories, with restrooms on both levels. Free street parking available. I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible experience we've had at Ethos Music Center. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were welcomed into a warm and nurturing environment that truly feels like a family. Every single staff member radiates kindness and genuine care, making it clear that they are not just here to teach music, but to inspire and guide children on their musical journeys. My child absolutely adores coming here, and it's heartwarming to see how much he's thrived under the guidance of such passionate and dedicated teachers. The personalized attention given to each student is remarkable, and it makes all the difference in fostering a love for music. Ethos has created a community where children feel safe to explore their talents and express themselves creatively. Thank you, Ethos Music Center, for enriching our lives and providing such a wonderful place for our children to learn and grow. We feel so fortunate to be a part of this amazing community. Ethos truly cares. 🥹☺️💚🌻
(Before you read this review, I would like to clarify that I am not Charles Lewis sr., but am Charles Lewis jr. another thing is the files attached are very old, and I cannot advocate for the certain state it is in now) I haven't been here for a while... but whenever I think about this place, man, I feel like that was the highest point of my life. every single day I went in, I came out a little bit better.
The staff, teachers, and volunteers at Ethos Music Center go above and beyond in supporting their mission to make music lessons and instrument rentals accessible: not just for students, but for EVERYONE who walks in the front door. It is a point of pride to build relationships with the amazing community that Ethos has fostered for over two decades. I see students of all ages who leave their lessons feeling excited about what they learned and what they will learn for next week. Students have the ability to choose the type of music they want to improve upon, even specific song suggestions. The instructors are welcoming, patient, kind, and full of knowledge and talent. The opportunities Ethos offers for those who are passionate about music are diverse. From the range of instruments available, and different lesson structures (private lessons, group lessons, ensembles, rock band, production & recording software instruction, etc.), Ethos truly puts the students and families first in this non-profit organization. If I could give more than 5-stars, I would!
