Was able to snag a desperately-needed eye exam as a new patient for the next day (found the appointment and booked on Tuesday, showed up Wednesday). I may have just gotten lucky but I am so grateful for this availability! Service was prompt and I was acknowledged by all staff members. Dr. Avani was so kind, professional, and thorough. Malia was incredibly sweet and lovely. And the interior itself was so charming and quaint. I loved it here. I can’t fully explain it but I had a good time. It’s like I was hanging out with everyone while taking care of my eye care needs. The vibe I got here was a sense of trust, gentleness, and humor. I look forward to coming back next year.

First eye exam in over a decade and wow the service here was so lovely. Every employee was so kind, understanding, and friendly. Dr. Avani was knowledgeable and professional throughout to whole exam, and Josue was so helpful during my process of choosing an affordable pair of glasses! As a physician, I can totally appreciated just how caring and competent Dr. Moonsamy and her staff are. I have been coming for the past 5 years and the level of service they offer is amazing. What speaks to the quality of this office is just how long the staff have been around and how Dr. Moonsamy remains committed to Oakland.

Dr. Moonsamy is a kind, caring doctor, but I'm not going back to this practice. I have VSP so they're in network, but every time I go here to get my eyes checked and my prescription updated, they automatically pull all the authorizations for all of my insurance-covered pairs of glasses, even though I don't order any through them. This means when I go elsewhere to order glasses I can't use my insurance directly and have to pay out of pocket, then get reimbursed. When I informed them of this annual inconvenience, they shrugged and rudely said, "Oh just have the eyeglasses retailer call us and we'll release the authorizations, it's no big deal, we do it all the time." Except their hours are extremely unreliable during covid, and I have to remember not to go order new glasses when their offices aren't open. Additionally, the last time I asked for a computer glasses prescription, they didn't ask me how far I usually look at my computer and wrote a random prescription for me to see things about 2.5 feet from my face -- completely useless for viewing a laptop that's much closer. When I told them that the glasses I'd had made using their computer glasses prescription wasn't right for me and gave me a headache, they did nothing to make it right except tell me I could come in for another eye exam and just re-order new glasses. I've been to this practice for ~4 years and I've reached my limit.
