We came here knowing the restaurant specializes in gyoza, but we were actually drawn in by a viral video from a popular foodie that highlighted their sushi. The sushi plates in the video looked phenomenal, and I was especially excited to see that they offer uni. Unfortunately, the actual sushi menu in person was very limited and underwhelming compared to what was portrayed online. I also asked whether it was possible to make a small customization to a sushi roll and was told no substitutions or modifications were allowed. Because of that, I ended up having to pick a roll somewhat blindly. After struggling with the menu, I asked our waitress whether the sauce on one of the rolls was spicy. The menu had the sauce listed on a piece of tape with no spice indicator, and she assured me it was not spicy. When my roll finally came out (well after others at the table, as food came out very sporadically), the sauce was extremely spicy to the point that I couldn’t eat it. By the time our waitress returned, I let her know and sent the roll back. She did offer to replace it, but given how long everything was taking and how randomly food was arriving, I decided not to order anything else and just shared bites from my family’s plates. For families, it’s worth noting there is no kids menu. My daughter ordered the regular gyoza, which were surprisingly dry and didn’t come with any dipping sauce. Even frozen gyoza typically include a sauce, so this was disappointing. She ended up using soy sauce, which made them overly salty, but it was the only option. Which now confuses me as I read other reviews and see photos of gyoza on plates with a sauce.. we definitely weren’t given a sauce. We also ordered edamame, but the sauce was very runny and overwhelming. Since you eat only the beans and discard the pods, it felt messy and unpleasant, especially since we were never given a bowl for the discarded pods. On top of all that, we were seated at a table directly in front of the door and were freezing the entire meal. Our appetizers also came out after our main food, at which point we barely touched them. They refunded my sushi, but I probably should have pushed more for the appetizers to be removed as well considering it was very clear we didn’t eat them, or even pack them to go. I really felt like the staff didn’t care that our experience was poor and the food wasn’t enjoyed. Overall, the experience felt disorganized and poorly executed, especially considering the hype that brought us in. Between the service issues, food timing, lack of flexibility, and disappointing menu, this just wasn’t a great experience, and I don’t see myself returning.
Gyoza Bar is a vibe. Great modern Japanese spot with a fun robata/izakaya feel and really solid food. The spicy sauce with karaage was perfectly crispy, the crispy pork cutlet was juicy, and the Japanese wagyu curry rice hit the spot. Bonus points for the chocolate gyoza (so good) and a beautiful matcha strawberry lemonade drink. Will be back.
A friend and I came here for lunch not too long ago. We meant to go to Yokohama Ramen, but we ended up here. It was a really good experience. My friend has food allergies. The waitress talked with them. The waitress was very accommodating. They have good friend octopus and scallops. They also have good udon. My friend remarked many times on how wonderful the food was. We really enjoyed it. If you like new places, this is a fun one to try.
Gyoza Bar is amazing! It’s my favorite new restaurant in the Wichita area. The atmosphere is incredible, with so much attention to detail apparent in every aspect! From the moment you’re greeted at the door, you’re immersed in modern Japanese style. The decor, the aromas, the service, and the flavors, all come together to create an experience that will quickly make you forget you’re in Kansas. With reasonable prices, ample portions, and a wide variety on the menu, it’s an all around great place for any occasion, from a casual lunch to a Saturday night date. With patio seating, and Japanese beer on tap it’s also a great spot to take a little break on any nice day or evening.
My wife and I were in for dinner this evening and it was amazing! We ordered quite a variety of food as it was our first time visiting and everything sounded delicious. The Japanese A5 wagyu and Tuna Cigars are a must try in my opinion. For my main course I opted for the chicken katsu curry rice and an Una Tama hand roll, my wife had a couple of different gyozas and some onigiri. We both enjoyed everything that we got. The bartender and owner were very polite. As far as drinks go, old fashion’s are my favorite cocktail. The one that our bartender made was the best old fashion I’ve had in Wichita. All in all it was a great experience and I would recommend that everyone gives it a try! I can definitely see this becoming one of our new favorite “go to” spots in town. Update 5/8/25: This has most definitely become my wife and I’s “go to” spots! We had the pleasure of experiencing the Omakase. Which is a special and unique multi course meal hand selected by the chef owner. This is how my wife and I celebrated our anniversary this year, and I can say it was one of the most enjoyable dinners we have ever had. I have attached some photos from our dinner that night. I would highly recommend the Omakase dinning experience!!!
