Updating my review. Today was the Day I finally managed to see the place inside and met the climbers there. It is a totally non-commercial set up, very old school. A lot of love and work is put in the place by people to whom rock climbing is still a passion of their life. The only minus that it is very difficult to get a hold of members. I only reached someone, when I sent PM messaged to multiple members of Facebook Kansas Cliff Club. The listed on the website phone is Google subscriber and gets too many bot and spam calls and texts. So they seldom check and answer it. Another way to get there in person on Thursdays or Tuesday evenings after 4 pm. Members often climb there on those days. Good luck and check the place in person!
Pretty cool! Everyone pitches in. I just show up cuz i am not experienced like many others. It's definitely not polished as a result but you get way more than what you pay for! There are no hours so I often go up late with only the people I came with. My favorite is to climb on the outside routs... Looking around at the landscape three Storeys high!
Thank you for allowing me to take your picture
Amazing facility and amazing people! I only climbed there once with a friend with a membership, and all the other members there were very helpful and friendly. If I wasn't going to college in another state I would've became a member.
The KCC was established decades ago by a group of rock climbers that wanted a place to climb in Wichita. After hundreds, if not thousands, of man-hours of hauling, cleaning, engineering, building, hanging, drilling, jack hammering, bolting, retro-fitting, and testing, we finally have that place. Most people that climb at the club today have no idea how much work went into it. They just expect that since it exists now, they should be able to climb there, and as soon as they have to attend a 2 hour membership class, or can't get ahold of someone by phone or email and they have to drive out to the club to talk to someone who doesn't get paid and definitely doesn't want to hear their griping, they get called elitist by some reviewer on Google that probably climbed there a couple times and now doesn't climb at all. The KCC isn't a gym. It's a club. It excepts climbers that want to be involved. That's how it stays open. By the volunteer work of its members. No one gets paid. The guy running the FB page isn't getting anything for being helpful. He doesn't have to do anything. He doesn't insult people. He called a guy Santa Claus because he was wearing a white napkin like a beard, not because he was over weight. If anything his mom insulted him with her comment. All that to say. The members of the KCC are really friendly folks that will stop in the middle of their climbing session to answer whatever dumb questions you have. And if you are willing to get involved, they will be great friends to you.
