Golden, flaky, and worth every single crumb. ✨ 🥐 If you haven’t experienced the legendary Kouign-Amann from this Plateau staple, are you even living your best Montreal life? 🏔️ Did you know that Pâtisserie Au Kouing Amann has been a neighborhood icon since 1999? For over 25 years, they’ve been perfecting the art of the Breton "butter cake," staying true to the traditional methods that make their crust so perfectly caramelized and their center so melt-in-your-mouth soft. It’s a little slice of Brittany right here on Mont-Royal Avenue. 🇫🇷🇨🇦 Pro tip: Get there early while they’re still warm from the oven! ☕️🥧 #MontrealBakery #MTLFoodie #PlateauMontRoyal #KouignAmann #MTLEats 📷 @StayserEats

One of my favorite bakery finds over the past year was this little bakery on Avenue Mont-Royal. Of course the thing to get is the treat that lends the bakery its name, the kouign amman- a flaky cake with a hard shell and soft interior hailing from Brittany. If you want to get a slice to enjoy, don’t make the same mistake I did and order the ‘small/petit’– that would get you a small cake, which is still a rather large thing to eat in one sitting. Then again, there are many worse mistakes one could make. The other heads up is that there’s only seating for two or maybe three groups, so maybe plan on picking up something to enjoy on a picnic.

Their kouign amann has genuinely made me rethink the standard. Absolutely mindblown at how good it is here, even came back and bought a whole kouign amann to bring back to Toronto. Also had their croissant au fromage and it might've one of the best i've had as well. An absolute must when visiting Montreal.

The kouign amann is one of the best pastries we’ve ever had in our lives oh my god. Perfectly soft, sweet, and buttery. It’s not overly sweet or greasy, genuinely excellent in every aspect. We also got the butter croissant which was yummy and had a great texture as well as a unique flavour profile - we suspect it may be due to the use of whipped butter? Very cozy atmosphere and service is extremely kind. Cannot wait to come back and eat as much of the kouign amann as possible loll!!

Love the pastries here! Initially got the Almond crossaint and this raisin/orange pinwheel. The almond crossaint was freshly made and was the highlight for me! Realized that the bakery is specialized in making Kouign-amann [thus the name lol] so i ordered a slice. It was very yummy but a little too heavy for me! My boyfriend very much enjoyed it though! Should def make this a stop if you are travelling to Montreal!
