Great experience! A couple weeks ago, I stopped in to find a new pair of prescription eyeglasses. The staff were so incredibly kind and gave great recommendations based on a few styles I liked. She helped me define what i liked most, looked best, felt comfortable, and would work with my somewhat high prescription. I appreciated all her pragmatic points, while still keeping the shopping experience fun. She was funny and showed me some silly styles just for fun! I bought a pair of Mykitas, and picked them up a couple days ago. They are so so so cool!! The man who helped me pick up the glasses was also fantastic, and (naturally) was sporting the coolest eyeglasses I’ve ever seen. Guess I’ll be back for those :) Optical Underground really runs a great business. They stand out from the sea of optical options on Hayes!

Friendly, helpful service, and incredible selection of frames ranging from basic to high fashion (though from last season), at reasonable prices for both frames and lenses. The store branding is worth a visit in itself, with lots of references to the London Underground without being at all kitschy. Even the train ticket business card is so perfect.

I went in to every optometrist in Hayes Valley (5 total!) and this was far and away the best place to shop for glasses. Where others were snooty, they were welcoming. Where others were too bland, they were unique. Where others were too busy, they were attentive. Where others were pricy, they were really affordable! A staff member walked me through the whole process, asked me what I was going for, my current glasses style, and then picked a ton based on my preferences and face shape - after the first round they found even more based on the ones I liked until I was down to the perfect pair which they had prepared in the next week. It's been a year and I love my glasses, get tons of compliments, and am planning to get my next pair here! It's a bit tucked away but it's a really cool building.

Great selection of glasses and usually at a fraction of the retail price for top designer brands. We really wanted to love this funky neighborhood shop. However, the glasses we ordered where delayed multiple times, and the staff were indifferent and dismissive about it when we stopped by the shop to inquire- with the exception of Sam who was very helpful and took care of our lenses in the end.
