We were there on a Sunday. It's a small but very cool winery. There's a gentleman named Jim Collins who repairs windmills. He's the one who let us in and gave us a tasting. They have a modest offering of about 7-8 wines, all sweet ones which we prefer. If you want a slick, modern operation where you're hustled in and out, you'll need to go somewhere else. If you like laid back with a good taste of local history, you're in the right place... We got several bottles of wine since they were so tasty. They ALSO have several locally made jams, and two ice teas that we did buy. They were DELICIOUS!!! Buyy several of both the strawberry and the peach iced tea. Not too much sugar, they were quite flavorful. I wish we had bought 6 of each on the teas... They get three thumbs up- only 3 other wineries got that high a rating, but they were way bigger and quite different. DEFINITELY WORTH THE TIME!!!
Call before come - they have a note on the door but may not hear the phone. Gabriel was in the shed next door, and was very nice. No wine tasting fee. Good fruity wine but not the normal red or white. It is strawberry, Blackberry, grape, etc.
Hidden treasure, very nice staff, cool decor, tasty sweet wines. My favorite where the muscadine and the strawberry. Those two where quite nice, ended up picking up a dozen various bottles... as well as jalapeno strawberry jam and strawberry ice cream. Well worth the short drive to check them out!
I recently visited Poteet Winery, and I was absolutely blown away. The free wine tasting was a great way to learn about the different wines that the winery produces. The tasting room is small and intimate, which made it feel like a personal experience. The winemaker was very knowledgeable and passionate about her wines, and she took the time to explain each wine to us in detail. We tried a variety of wines, Strawberry /Blackberry, Blackberry, Blueberry, Strawberry Reserve. All of the wines were delicious, and I especially enjoyed the Blackberry. The location of the winery is also very special. It is located in the small town of Poteet in the suburbs of San Antonio. The staff at Poteet Winery were some of the friendliest people I have ever met. They were welcoming and accommodating, and they really went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. I would highly recommend Poteet Winery to anyone looking for a great wine tasting experience. Hours are from 8:00-5:00 or give them a call for a personal tour.
A definite stop to make if you are into wine. Don’t be afraid to stop by if it looks secluded as it is a hidden gem. The winery has a great selection of wines which are produced and bottled onsite. I loved all their wines but I took home a bottle of their mustang wine.
