It has been a month since my best friend Toby passed. As difficult as it is for me to write this, my family and I greatly appreciate the effort the staff made to help my dog, Toby. Toby was family, and for 15.5 years, I was able to cherish every moment being with him until the end. Despite all the pain he endured, Toby was conscious and had a fighting spirit as he waited for his owner's help. I called SAGE ahead, and when I went to pick up Toby, during the car ride, it felt as though he was talking to me. When he heard my voice, he let out a big sigh, then began whimpering to me, reflecting his pain and relief at seeing me. I was reassuring him the whole ride to the vet, telling Toby he was going to be alright and to push a bit more, and he barked back. I said we made it, boy, and brought him inside. At this point, I put my faith in accepting whatever outcome will be... and Toby passed, he stopped breathing while in the operating room, but somehow got a breath of air again. The nurse saw this and brought him into the room so that my family and I could say our goodbyes. His body was shutting down, his eyes were off balance, neck was broken, and he was gasping for air. It was hard to watch. A dog is more than just a pet; they are angels, and I was fortunate enough to be with Toby as he was not alone. His last moments were where he showed me his loyalty and unconditional love by turning his head to look at me one last time. Toby closed his mouth, flared his ears forward, and his eyes locked onto mine as his pupils dilated. It was a moment of peace for both of us. It was his way of saying thank you.
The team at Sage saved our dog’s life. We were stunned when we arrived—the staff were so kind and even offered us tea, coffee, or water. The doctors were also highly informative, making sure we knew what was going on. They didn’t pressure us into making a decision, acknowledging that the financial aspect of a pet emergency is a big one. We will always be thankful to them for allowing us to visit her and for keeping her so comfortable before we were able to take her home. We absolutely loved our experience. It was highly stressful, of course, but they did everything they could to make it less so.
I had an emergency before Christmas and took my Labrador at SAGE hospital. From the night I called, the pre exam with the nurse, receptionist, Doctor, overnight stay up to discharge , everyone make me feel safe and comfortable. I cant thank you guys enough, my Baby is getting better everyday. We were able to spend our Christmas at home
We brought our cat to Sage on Friday for an emergency, the minute we walked in they took him and started working on him to get him comfortable. Came out to us and updated his condition. They kept him over the weekend, called and texted us for updates. They made us feel comfortable knowing he was in good hands. The professionalism was outstanding by all staff members. Hopefully we never have to bring our cat back but if we do, we know he will be in the best of care. Update: Our Cosmo is home and doing great 🐈
It's taken me 2 years to write this, mainly due to grieving. I moved to sf and it was a really hard time mentally and financially on my own. I unexpectedly lost both my Siberian huskies at the same time due to them getting into things while I was away, it was the most devastating loss I've had to go through. Sadly I don't remember the vet and their staff there but I can't thank you enough for the CONTINUOUS compassion they had while I made my way to them. They gave me my options, were very emphatic on their time line, the chances they had and didn't pressure me into any decision. With their help, and kindness I had to make the hardest decision to let them both go. The staff gave me as much time as I needed, and let me tell you, I needed it. These two were my biggest joy in life and they walked me through it all with so much compassion. I appreciated them laying out blankets on the floor vs having them lay on the concrete floor or the metal tables. They made it very comfortable for them to both be together in the same room and allow me to lay with them on the blankets. They walked me through the process with each vile they admitted, took their time when I needed them to stop to hold them and began gaining when I was ready. They were just so compassionate and ensured they passed at the same time together. I will forever be grateful for that level of patience and empathy. It was heartbreaking seeing staff also tear up, I remember one of the staff mentioning they'd never had to euthanize two huskies at the same time. It was a really hard night for everyone. After it was all done, they gave me the room and were so supportive, they walked me through my options, and even mentioned I could have more time to decide if needed for costs and cremations. I was so devastated of their sudden passing I asked for two small vials of fur to remember them by and they helped me collect some. It's taken a very long time but looking back, I'm so thankful for how loving this staff were to a complete stranger. If anyone needs any emergency support or sadly, a place to go to for their loved pets euthanasia, I recommend them. One thing I didn't know vets/cremation places can do, they can offer you a private cremation (just your pet to be cremated on its own at a higher price, or a different kind where they are cremated with others, I was taken back by that but I can see now why some may opt the cheaper price if they can't afford it, I personally did the private pet cremation one and payed more) They are also partnered with "Animal Memorial Service" funeral home in Gilroy,CA, and walked me through every step of the way. When Animal Memorial Service dropped my pups urns back to SAGE they called me right away, and I was very pleased with how I felt they went above and beyond. The urn plaque (I do wish it was a screwed on name vs a sticky seal and included the year) but it did have their name and time of passing, it came with a letter certificate when they were cremated, a wooden print of their paws which I didn't expect to get, a ink stamp of their paws (and they emailed me a digital print of their paws when I requested, true to size, which I've since tattooed on me). Thank you again SAGE Veterinary Center
