great prices! Also such helpful, friendly, and funny staff. after moving to dc a little over a year ago from the midwest, it is nice to feel such hospitality from you guys!
This shop is such a gem. The staff really know their stuff and are always happy to help you find the right bottle, whether you are looking for something special or just an easy weeknight wine. The selection is amazing, with great options from small producers and unique regions you do not usually see in big stores. The prices are fair and the atmosphere feels warm and welcoming. I always leave learning something new and finding a wine I end up loving.
Fun place to browse, friendly, okay prices, rare and unusual bottles. This is a review of their scotch selections, which were extremely interesting and included some very odd and eclectic bottles (in a good way). Staff were keen to help and generally knowledgeable about their products, care and curation had gone into the scotch section. When they didn't know something, they asked someone in the back for help, which showed respect for the products and the customer. I found a bottle I was surprised to see in the States (an unusual Wolfburn - lovely suff). I also purchased a genuinely weird mystery bottle on a steep discount that sent me down a rabbit hole of investigation. Highland Harvest Sauternes Cask Organic Single Malt - not great but fun to research, organic whisky is interesting. Regarding the Highland Harvest, I think I finally figured out where it's from and why it needed a wine cask finish to taste like something but I cannot recommend it. What I can recommend is Schneider's for trying it out and having adventuresome tastes, even if some gambles don't work out, these curiosities build loyalty to the shop. Anyway, the point is that it's fun to shop here because there are interesting bottles. If you want to try Lowland whisky from newer distilleries, for example, they had Kingsbarn, Lindores Abbey, and Clydeside, which is a pretty good showing in this lesser-appreciated category. Their selection of Independent Bottlings (IBs) isn't extensive but it contains some interesting Signatory Cask Strengths and Old Particulars of note (a Tormore and a Macduff) that I hope to return to purchase on next visits to this area of the country. If you want to try out one of the Signatory "Macallans" I think they might still have one or two in stock for a reasonable price, but these vary in quality, I'm told. Prices here were not bad overall but sometimes kind of weird. Campbeltown Loch for less than sixty bucks was very nice to see. On the other hand, their web site lists a Glen Scotia 17 for $1500, which is either a misprint or a prank. It's possible that some consignment selling or selling of folks' old collections is happening online here? If so, some online prices need a second look, and the site somtimes lacks good information such bottle photos and ABV, which should be provided for any alcohol product. This makes a difference with the value of whisky. A Weymss Spice King at 40% ABV is simply not the same product as the older 46%, and not worth it, by all accounts. It is also listed as a Blend when I think it's a Blended Malt. This is getting in the weeds, which is a compliment to the selection. But just showing up here and asking for a recommendation based on stuff enjoyed in the past yielded solid recommendations from the impressive scotch-heads here.
Great selection and even better staff. Pick anyone, and they're extremely knowledgeable on products. Richard B recommended to me a deliciously excellent Edradour 11 year old aged in a single oloroso sherry cask. Andrew recommended to me Edradour's younger 10 year old spirit (9 months after the previous Edradour purchase) aged all its years in a single madeira cask, which was nothing short of tremendous on first pour. In my honest opinion, Scheiders is the best liquor store in the district. I price compare and they typically carry the best price, the selection is specialized as well as all encompassing, and most importantly you have staff that know what they're doing. The only issue with the review is that it's capped at 5 stars.
I has been buying from this store for years, in the past I was dealing with Tristan and he always worked out good deals and recommendations, complementary shipping, etc. For the last couple of years, since Tristan left the company, the manager Terry took over and the way he handle things is very erratically. He does NOT have good customer oriented manner. On my second to last order he sold me 2 bottles that were described as White wine, they turned out to be red and one of them a grape I have never bought since I don’t like. He refused to take those bottles back and went further to say he did not want to do more business with me. Then he shipped 3 bottles they had set aside for me and they arrived in a very bad shape, they seemed to have gone through a very high heat, they probably sent me those damaged bottles on purpose. Beware with the bad costumer services and lack of ownership when they get something wrong.
