I have been taking my cats here for many years and always receive the best service. They’re so friendly, caring and patient. When my older cat had a lot of health issues they were so accommodating with squeezing him into appointments as needed and tried to minimize costs where they could. My older cat has since passed but SLAH team sent flowers / a card signed by the staff when it happened and it was such a sweet sentiment and made me realize how genuine they are. I have since adopted another cat who I make sure gets her care from the SLAH team, specifically Dr Ojala (she’s the best!) - however everyone is wonderful here! From front desk staff, to vet techs to drs. Highly recommend!
My dog was barely able to finish his walk one day due to sudden worsening of hip arthritis. I found South Loop Animal Hospital had excellent reviews and I was in the market to find a new Veterinary clinic/hospital. I got in sooner than expected for a new client, and we had the best experience we have ever had. Firstly, this office is immaculate and odor free. The veterinary assistant was thorough in our onboarding to their system. The Veterinarian was also thorough, detailed in explanation of our options and sent me a very detailed summary of care options for my dog after our visit. I highly value and respect the professional and friendly culture there at SLAH. We thank you so much!!
Had my cat Sneaker put to sleep this morning by Dr. Karnia at SLAH. I would not recommend this facility. Take your pet to a veterinarian that cares about you and your pet. We found out my cat had lymphoma in his paw based on a biopsy completed by another vet. We took him to SLAH for a second opinion. He saw Dr. Karnia and she told us he had an infection and ran blood tests that further confirmed his lymphoma. My issue with her is that she knew the infection in his foot was being caused by the lymphoma, but when she was first explained it she made it seem like the infection was being caused by something else. So everything she said or recommended had me coming back to the clinic to pay for useless blood tests and antibiotic injections that were only a temporary fix. I paid $577 for his first visit. And the whole time Dr. Karnia should have known how pointless that was since lymphoma is one of the worse cancers a cat can have. Dr. Karnia also avoids conflict. Every time I asked her a question she never directly answered. She only told the truth about my cat and his cancer and the severity of it when I told her I wanted to have him put to sleep. When she did the first blood test and explained how his red and white blood cells were doing and after she said we can come back and she wanted his blood drawn a second time time to see how things were going. We can back a second and scheduled with another doctor but requested Dr. Karnia to follow up. At the second visit with the vet she had his blood drawn but would not give a second antibiotic injection for the infection because she said there were no open wounds. Dr. Karnia called me later explaining the results saying he did need a second injection because based on the blood work is body was still fighting the infection. She also recommended we get him an ultrasound to see what stage his lymphoma was and to see if it had spread. Now my cat was an older cat and I felt that with the type of cancer he had and his age that she kept suggesting possible next steps treatment or seeing an oncologist. After taking Sneaker to the second vet at SLAH on Tuesday Sneaker started declining fast and we could tell he was in pain. To me Dr. Karnia wanted to keep pushing the ultrasound and further next steps without taking into account his age and the severity of his cancer that she initially did not explain was so severe. However yesterday I scheduled to have him euthanized this morning. She called me yesterday and agreed that would be a good decision at this point but not once did she ever mention that we should put him to sleep AS AN OPTION . She was all about the money!!!!! She wanted to see what she could get from me yet she did not consider my cat’s quality of life until I mentioned euthanizing him! If I did not mention euthanizing him she was going to be fine with proceeding with the ultrasound and whatever else she recommended. And when Dr. Karnia speaks she does a lot of talking without saying nothing! Not once did she take responsibility for the suffering my cat endured. She knew once she got the biopsy results from the previous veterinarian that my cat’s cancer was advanced. She was strictly all about the money and she never really answers your questions directly. She discusses everything but what you asked her. She speaks empty words like a used car salesman. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS TO SLAH !!!!!!!We also called asking how much to euthanize him and the receptionist said something like $104 since he is a patient and like $200 something if he was not a patient. I paid $184. So they are not always clear and honest about the prices. My mother even asked the blonde bob haired tech a question regarding this and she was legit ignoring her. She did not say anything until I said excuse me. In addition there are a lot of young veterinarians at this clinic. I recommend finding a veterinarian that is at least over 40 with more experience. The techs are extremely young as well. And please find a veterinarian that cares about you and your pet!!!!
Our relationship with South Loop Animal Hospital has been going on for over ten years. This is our fourth and fifth senior rescues we have taken to be treated there. This past week our little Yorkie was having problems with her eyes to the point of her crying in pain. Called South Loop in the morning and was in there within two hours. The expediency is due to the fact she has cataract and doesn't get worst. From the moment we walked in until we left everyone we dealt with had one concern to help our little princess. Dr. Sanchez examined her taking care to make sure there was nothing new. The problem was identified as irritation that could easily be dealt with. I have seen changes in the staff at South Loop but never anyone there that was not of the highest caliber. The doctors there have performed numerous surgeries on our dogs always with the best of results. They have no problem with sending us to specialist if needed. Next month surgery is scheduled for our little Chihuahua. Not even thinkingof taking him anywhere else.
I brought my two kittens for their first vet appointment at South Loop Animal Hospital and the experience was nothing but excellent! The front desk was quick and informative. The vet techs and doctor answered all my questions and any behavioral issues I’ve noticed with my kittens. They caught quickly that one of my kittens had ear mites and did a free of charge in house ear cleaning. I paid for two ear mite revolution medication to prevent any further issues. They received their last booster kitten shots and said that if any ear problems persist with one of my kittens then to definitely come back in. My other kitten had some goopy and crusty eye build up I started to notice and they sent me home with some eyedrops and I could have the option of starting her on antibiotics to further help later if needed which I don’t think I will need. They handled my kittens with care and love and gave them churrus for their shots. They were comfortable and exploring the whole room during their visit which was super clean. The prices were all reasonable with the visit itself being around $96 per kitten and shots being around $54 each. Because I only plan on coming in for just an annual checkup & shots each year this is reasonable to me and I am glad to have a very caring doctor and vet techs in my neighborhood. They slept like babies when we got home and weren’t stressed or anything at all the whole experience. :) Thank you SLAH from this happy cat mom.
