We tried the bottomless menu, which was a nice way to sample all the dishes. The food was good overall, though some items needed seasoning—no salt, pepper, or sauces were offered, and the chicken was dry. Dessert was the highlight and very tasty. The service wasn’t that great either. Also, double-check your bill; ours initially came overcharged.
Tamayo continues to be one of those places that reminds you why classics exist. The ribeye fajitas were the standout. Served sizzling, perfectly cooked, and paired with all the right sides so you can build each bite to your liking. Everything tasted fresh and well seasoned, and the tortillas were exactly what they should be. One thing I really appreciated was the mocktail program. We had only non alcoholic drinks and they were thoughtful, well balanced, and satisfying. It never felt like a downgrade from a cocktail, and I loved leaving dinner feeling good instead of sluggish. Between the food, the atmosphere, and the drinks, Tamayo delivers a polished but approachable experience. It’s a great option for a downtown dinner that still feels fun and indulgent without being over the top.
We came to Tamayo to celebrate our engagement, and the entire experience felt incredibly special from start to finish. As someone who is Mexican, it’s honestly hard to find restaurants that feel true to flavor and not just Tex-Mex, and this restaurant absolutely delivered. The food was authentic, thoughtfully prepared, and full of depth. Every dish honored real Mexican flavors while still feeling refined and elevated. The drinks were impeccable. Smooth, well-balanced, and clearly crafted with intention not just another butchered cocktail, which can honestly be hit or miss in Denver. From the moment we walked in, the space felt intentional and beautiful with resort-like, neutral, luxurious vibes without feeling pretentious. Our server Alex was so attentive, kind, and sweet, and Assistant Manager Scott went above and beyond to make sure our celebration felt cared for. Their warmth truly made the night unforgettable. I dine out often in Denver and love trying new restaurants, and this one truly hit it out of the park. We will absolutely be back and can’t recommend it enough. 💛
I really enjoyed Tamayo, enough so I went there twice in a week. Started with the Tamayo margarita that has a great balance sweet sour as I'm one to shy away from sweet drinks. The guacamole with pork belly had a nice balance of tartness to take care of the richness. Quesabirria were excellent elevated version. Good michelada as well
If you’re looking for an elevated, vibrant Mexican dining experience right in the heart of Larimer Square, Tamayo by Chef Richard Sandoval is a standout. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere strikes a perfect balance of modern elegance and welcoming warmth. The décor is polished and stylish, and there’s a rooftop deck that gives the space a fresh, open feel. Chef Sandoval clearly brings his passion and heritage into every dish, blending bold, authentic Mexican flavors with creative presentation and modern techniques. The menu offers a range of dishes that manage to feel both adventurous and comforting — standouts like expertly seasoned tacos, guacamole and queso fundido, and more substantial entrees like their salmon a la Talla or enchiladas all leave an impression. Service is polished without being stuffy — attentive, friendly, and clearly proud of what the team is offering. The overall flow from ordering to plating is smooth, which enhances the experience rather than detracting from it. It’s also impressive how Tamayo has kept itself relevant over the years. Originally opening in 2001, it’s still regarded as a corner-stone of Denver’s restaurant scene, continually refreshing both its space and its menu to stay dynamic without losing what made it special in the first place.
