As this was a Christmas night out it was a black toe event in the private Snug . Food was delicious and one of our party who works in another establishment said the choice was good as the food was excellent. The scallops were a good size, the version very tender . The cheeseboard was a lovely selection. The 2 servers who's name o did not catch were very knowledgeable about the types of gins on offer . They were very attentive to the group's needs. The antique cutlery and China add a unique twist and the temourus beastie thistle wall paper and tartan accessories let you know your in a very Scotland them restaurant.
Well cooked food but service and atmosphere didn’t meet my expectations… I was very excited to go based on reviews and made a reservation 1 week in advance on a Sunday in November at 16:30. We were a table of 2 dining on a 2 course lunch menu. It didn’t look busy, only a few tables but perhaps rest were reserved for evening diners? Service was slow, took 40 minutes for our starter to come! Thankfully we had a late brunch and were chatting away but it’s not acceptable for a quiet restaurant where we ordered one starter to share! We were offered more bread to tide us over but 40 minutes is far too long to wait for one starter. Mains came around 15 minutes later after I chased. Joseph, our waiter was very apologetic and attentive thereafter- improved our overall experience. Definitely believe service improved when started kicking off and we received two complimentary small tarts. Nice goodwill gesture and the mains were tasty but I think the atmosphere was a bit off. We were expecting more warm and comforting Scottish hospitality. But I found it hard to flag down waiters (there’s a fair few and it was not busy) and an aloof vibe. We were not charged service charge- perhaps our waiter waved it off cos he knew it wasn’t right. I would not revisit again based on the food wait times and overall atmosphere. Food was nice though. Perhaps I visited on an off day or lunch menu diners aren’t a priority as I noticed the other tables receiving their food very fast.
The Buttery never disappoints! This was my second time hosting a team dinner here, and once again, everyone loved it. The private dining space downstairs is such a gem — cozy, intimate, and perfect for team gatherings. Every dish was spot-on (honestly haven’t had a single miss yet), and the staff were brilliant throughout. Andrew deserves a special mention for being so accommodating with both my bookings. Best believe I’ve already locked in our team Christmas dinner here too — it’s become our tradition!
My boyfriend and I are massive foodies and we’ve eaten in some really nice places all over the world. The buttery is up there with some of the nicest. Fresh British ingredients elevated to something very special, everything cooked to absolute perfection. Service was immaculate, wine glasses polished perfectly - such great attention to detail. The one male waiter is an absolute winner (sorry didn’t catch his name) and offered to book us taxis after our meal. Cocktails were fab, staff absolutely make this whole experience fantastic. Thank you so much for a lovely meal, we can’t wait to come back. Very very reasonably priced. We paid £170 for 3 courses each and a bottle of wine and 2 cocktails - the level of service you get here you could only expect from a high end hotel, I was very pleasantly surprised.
A place kindly recommended by a proud and authentic Scot for my first trip to this beautiful country and it truly exceeded expectations. If I had to offer a critique, I’d say the décor feels a little dated, and the location isn’t where you’d expect to stumble upon such a rare gem. With that said, these points become irrelevant the moment you experience what The Buttery has to offer. The service was absolutely exceptional. In an age where genuine hospitality is becoming increasingly rare, The Buttery not only sets the gold standard but exceeds it. The staff were warm, attentive, and struck the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness. It’s clear they take real pride in making each guest feel welcome, and to this, I take my hat off to the team for delivering such a memorable and refined dining experience. The food never fell short. Every dish was presented with care and cooked to a high standard, showcasing real attention to flavour and detail. Nothing felt rushed or overly fussy; just beautifully prepared, comforting food done exceptionally well. A special mention must go to the bread, which is made fresh in-house by their own bakers, which is an impressive touch that sets them apart from places that rely on mass-produced shortcuts. The pricing was also fair, offering excellent value for the quality of both the food and the service. In short, The Buttery was a true highlight of my trip and a top-tier recommendation for anyone visiting Glasgow.
