We first visited The Dallas Arboretum, the day after Christmas. It was our first visit after receiving a gift of membership. The holiday installation was still on display. Everything was pretty quiet, but during the time Santa is there I’m sure the Christmas Village is hustling and bustling. Can’t wait yo go back to see all the new blooms after the Winter. It’s a not to miss attraction for the whole family.
Fantastic space, caught last day of Christmas decor and it was gorgeous!!!! The kids areas were so extensive and the Christmas village was so beautifully done. Got a chance to do the tram ride across the gardens and was a great opportunity to learn about the history of the gardens. Also visited the DeGolyer house which had a monochromatic holiday theme. Wouldn’t miss on a trip to Dallas!
I stopped by the Dallas Arboretum looking for a scenic place to walk off a heavy BBQ lunch, and it was exactly what I needed. The grounds are incredibly well-maintained with mostly flat, easy paths, making for a very relaxing stroll. The variety of gardens is impressive, and since I visited during the holidays, the "12 Days of Christmas" gazebos and the Christmas Village were a fantastic bonus. Even without kids, it was a great atmosphere to just wander and enjoy the outdoors. One tip: the entrance and parking fees can add up quickly. If you’re a local or plan on returning, I’d definitely look into a membership or check their website for weekday deals, as it makes the return visits much more affordable. Overall, a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary in the middle of Dallas.
The kind of botanical gardens that is the gem of the city. Dallas and Texas in general, ironically is not the most ecologically or environmentally thoughtful culture. However, you will find more than just your garden variety clubs backing this fantastic botanical gardens venue. Even though the crape Myrtle (Asiatic spp) and other non-native species abound, the garden undulates through a number of seating areas, sprawling grass lawns, and really wonderful seasonal installations (e.g., Christmas Lights). This is definitely a very human made and human dominated landscape. One that helps us remember how much nature abounds on its own and how wonderful it is to get outside and connect. More importantly, these botanical gardens instill in us the thought, and will to preserve space for nature to do its own thing. And for humans to be mindful of the quiet in nature, the slow pace of the wild, and truly that it is safe and sound for us to go there! The garden’s established oak trees, pecans, and other native species are well represented for us to all admire and appreciate, for multiple human generations. Parking is easy between four choices - lot 1 is where you will most likely be directed and want to find. There is a cafe, restrooms, and a gift shop. Pricing and parking fees are separate and for this part, you might want to car pool or make sure it’s good date to get your value out of the visit.
