Very pleased with my experience at the center. They were all very good about keeping me informed and making sure everything went well with my procedure.
I have been coming here for over two years, aiming to treat my body acne. Dr. Berk was my specialist throughout both years. At first, I tried antibiotics and other treatments outside of Accutane. He always pushes for Accutane as a solution. Doing my research, the first year, I knew it wasn’t for me because my acne wasn’t as bad, and it would be heavy on my body with the amount of side effects. But in recent year, my patience ran thin with my acne, so I caved into doing Accutane. First of all, that drug is ridiculously full of side effects that most people will “undermine” for the average person. Taking a medium dosage of around 40 mg tends to bring out most of the side effects. But that’s just the drug. Dr. Berk made this drug feel like it could cure my acne if I met all the “expected” dosage amounts. When I could barely handle the 20 mg, there was a sense of well, I don’t know any other medication that can help you outside of Accutane. I was constantly pushed for Accutane to be the solution. I communicated that if I get off it, I have a feeling I will have flares. Completely disregarding this comment, Dr. Berk recently told me not to do it for a month. Come today with a few of the acne nodes on my body, tells me he can’t “control my acne” but “accutane should have fixed it”. I had been on Accutane for a year, and if my getting off one month starts a flare up, when I communicated that would happen as my fear, I would not be going back on Accutane. At the end, he looks to his assistant and tells her to write another dosage of Accutane for me. If this story doesn’t sit right with you as the reader, imagine what it would be like if you were the patient. Booking appointments for him now means he either runs late or is late. You sit in the lobby for almost or over an hour, have a 10-minute conversation about how you feel, and then end up doing his idea. However, when you don’t mix well with the treatment, you either have to do it again or be told I don’t know, you figure it out. Realistically, if you can find a better dermatologist, I would recommend that you do so. I am done coming here altogether.
The skincare procedure itself was successful and healed well, which I appreciate. However, several aspects of the experience left me feeling uncomfortable and hesitant to return. I had two appointments. During the first, I waited over an hour in the lobby, which gave the impression the office was overbooked. The procedure went smoothly enough, but I wish the medical staff had been more transparent. Surgery can be nerve-wracking, and my questions were met with minimal responses and vague reassurances, which didn’t feel very supportive. At my follow-up appointment to get the stitches removed, I again waited over 45 minutes. It wasn’t until I asked the front desk if everything was okay that I was finally brought back to be seen. Shortly after, I received a bill for over $400. When I called the billing department to get clarification, I was met with a condescending tone and vague responses, mostly being told to contact my insurance without any real explanation. While the front office staff were consistently kind, patient, and empathetic, the rest of the experience made me feel like an inconvenience rather than a patient. Despite the procedure itself going well, I left feeling uneasy and don't plan on returning.
After reading the reviews, I expected this to be a bad experience. However my visit was The complete opposite of the other reviews I had read. The front staff were friendly they greeted you when you came in the doctor was very accommodating and even listened to my dumb questions well I thought they were dumb he explained the causes & treatment me for different skin conditions which he really didn’t have to do but he made me feel valued and appreciate appreciated as a patient.
I recently visited The Skin Care Center in Lakeview for a full-body skin check and to address some persistent eczema flare-ups. Dr. was thorough and took the time to answer all my questions, making me feel at ease. The appointment cost around $150, which I found reasonable for the comprehensive care provided. The only downside was a bit of a wait past my scheduled time, but the friendly staff and clean, professional environment made up for it. Overall, I'd recommend The Skin Care Center for anyone seeking attentive dermatological care in the Lakeview area.
