Vanilla Sky still owes my party our deposit of over $2000, since this summer. This is based on my actual lived experience with Vanilla Sky- we were planning an event and gave Vanilla Sky a deposit to hold our date. After we determined Vanilla Sky wasnt the right venue for the event, Glenn told us- no problem, they had someone interested in your date and we will be given our deposit back. We both verbally discussed and had a contract in place that if they were able to find another party for the date, we would get our deposit back- that is what was agreed to by both parties and a fair resolution. After lies and promises that the funds would be returned, they never were. Ive never been taken advantage of in this way or dealt with such lack of professionalism. Please save your money and sanity and go to another venue.
Vanilla skies was amazing to work with - we worked with them for my husbands 30th birthday. We had a hiccup with my initial venue and they worked tirelessly to find me a new one that would give me the same vibe / look we were hoping for. The day of the event, the staff was incredibly helpful in bringing our vision to life and Rodney did an amazing job setting it all up. Highly recommend for your next event!
my recent experience with Vanilla Skies, which was far from satisfactory. The issues began with the misrepresentation of several terms in my client's contract that were asked to be removed from your facility and given to my company. One of the most significant points of contention is the $550 cork fee you were charging, even though alcohol was not being sold. According to Jersey City ABC and the State of NJ, this is illegal for your facility to charge clients. Security guards at $233 each told they needed 3 plus, another $1500 in other staff and decor charges. You also did not allow her to bring in a photobooth or her own event insurance, forcing us to use the facilities which were extremely high. Regarding the time to decorate and the inconvenience caused, your contract initially stated 5 hours the night before or the morning of the event for $550, with us being notified 2 weeks before of availability. You then changed after all the extras were removed from contract stating we only get 2 hours day of additional hours would be $550 per hour. On the day of the event, you called me at 11:53am telling you were starting to set up. I inquired about draping the food area and if it was possible to open the tables or let me in 15 minutes earlier. Your representative said they would open the tables but the door at 5 pm. When we arrived at 4:40 pm, I called and rang the bell for entrance to loading dock. When you did answer, you said you were busy, and I had to wait. At 4:50 pm, I asked if you could open dock door to get the truck out of traffic. My helper asked if we could unload on the dock without entering the facility, which turned into a heated argument with your representative who closed the dock doors as the truck was being backed in. Your representative came out and stated they could shut the party down before it happens. I apologized for my helper's behavior, but was told they couldn't enter the premises, or the party would be canceled. Attached are photos showing how we walked into your facility. Your representative and one other were in our way trying to unload as several deliveries were happening simultaneously. Balloons were still up from your last event, the draping you were providing was not up, and the floor was dirty before we even pulled out one piece of decor. Your representative consistently got in the way, counting chairs, saying tables weren't 6 ft away from the exit or wall, and waiting on staff to get water for the food setup and vases as there was no running water on the main floor. Your chairs were in bad shape and needed to be repainted and cleaned. I asked several times for chairs to be exchanged because covers were not being used. When guests arrived, they were supposed to get champagne from the wall, which held 45 glasses, but you said you would not refill it despite having several bottles to accommodate guests. You then asked the DJ with one speaker in a warehouse next to the train to turn the music down. At 10:50 pm, I was asked for guests to start to disburse because if we weren't out by 12 am, the client would lose their security deposit. We left your facility at 11:45 pm, and I would never return for any amount of money to this venue again. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I was there for a pop-up to sell my homemade bags. It was a wonderful experience with a very friendly host. The place was clean with bathrooms upstairs with the option to take the elevator or stairs. I believe that for the Christmas holiday, there would be another pop-up by Vanilla Skies, and I plan to attend. My only wish is that a big sign goes up in the front of the building that can alert drivers passing that there is a pop up taking place in here so park your car in the parking lot next door then come on in to enjoy the entertainment, food and support the vendors that came here today.
My husband and I recently had our baby shower here at Vanilla Skies. The event space is nothing short of amazing. We received about 120 RSVPs, but the space was able to accommodate the 150 people that showed up. The venue was able to accommodate parking for everyone, and we were even able to put our vehicles in the loading dock for easier set up and break down. It is very spacious, and they offer you a blank canvas to bring your vision to life. The staff was amazing and was always a phone call away prior to our event. If we had any questions or concerns, they ensured to contact us the same day. On the day of our event, the staff made sure to remain as hands-on as possible. They helped us with everything from set up to break down. We love this space and can't wait to hold future events here.
