If you have a pet emergency, this is a wonderful place to go. They have an interesting "open concept" triage, but all of the pets are so well behaved and cared for. Their care is very integrated, careful, and attentive to each pet's needs. I loved the way each vet and nurse took their time with each patient, showing love as well as quality care. They're all saints.
In a better world, I wouldn't be leaving this review tonight. Thankfully, the experience was the best it could be given the circumstances. My 15 year old cat Blair had a long history of medical issues. She'd been on a steady medication regime for about 5 years and just started a new medication for her thyroid. All this to say, I know she hasn't been at perfect health for a while, but when she started wheezing this morning, I knew that was a red flag. Her breathing was very labored, she didnt want to be touched, wouldn't eat, and then peed on my bed, which she has never done before. Our vet didn't have any availabilities for the day by the time I was able to call, so my husband and I took her to VEG. We were seen immediately, and everybody at the clinic worked with a really calming efficiency. They took her vitals, identified fluid in her lungs, got her some oxygen, and then sent a cost estimate for the potential tests. Here's the thing - we lost our other cat earlier this year, about the same amount of time after starting her on the medication Blair just started, so we were skeptical about the necessity of all of the tests. Dr. B was very honest and frank with us about Blair's health. She looked over her past blood work and vitals and let us know that our Blair was in end stage, and getting the fluid out of her lungs would be... difficult, likely impossible given her current health. And taking her home tonight would mean risking her passing in a painful way. So with the help of the VEG staff, we said goodbye to my best friend of 15 years tonight. I would have rather been able to do it at home, but I wouldn't risk making her last moments a struggle for anything. They had a nice private room and let us spend time with her there until we were ready, and even got prints of her nose and paw for us in ink. Thank you, even though this sucked a lot, you were all very supportive and kind.
VEG So ATX was a fantastic experience. We were greeted & triaged immediately. The open concept clinic is a cool way to watch the staff in action. They are extremely professional, caring, & courteous. It’s comforting to be at your pets side during their care. The price point was exceptional. 5 stars VEG!!!
I can’t say enough good things about the care Noelle received at VEG South Lamar on Sunday 12/14/2025, especially from vet tech Mandy and Dr. Johnson. Our rescue has brought multiple dogs to VEG over the years and we’ve always received excellent care, but this experience felt different. The moment Noelle came through the door, Mandy and Dr. Johnson treated her with urgency, compassion, and a level of personal care that made it feel like we had brought in their own dog. Noelle came in with an embedded collar and a severe neck wound. It was scary, emotional, and time-sensitive. Mandy was calm, kind, and incredibly attentive, never once making us feel rushed or dismissed. Dr. Johnson jumped into action with confidence and empathy, explaining everything clearly while prioritizing Noelle’s comfort and safety. They didn’t just treat a medical emergency. They treated Noelle like she mattered, and they treated us like partners in her care. Thank you both for everything you did for Noelle.
The team at VEG ER made what was one of the worst days of my life as tolerable as possible. I came in around 0400 with my chihuahua, Dallas, and they immediately met him with care and me with grace. Throughout the entire diagnostic process they were communicative and sincere. Ultimately I had to make the choice to put my best friend down. The team there was so patient with me as I tried to ask questions, I know it wasn’t easy talking to me in that state. They let me have others join me and I even got to bring my other dog so she could say goodbye to her brother. When it came time to send Dallas off, we were in a private room and never once rushed. Obviously losing my best friend was a terrible experience, but the doctors & techs here really did make it as not-awful as possible. I’m so grateful they could stop Dallas’s suffering. If I ever need emergency care for my other pup, I’ll definitely be coming here.
