⸻ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Title: The most compassionate and skilled recovery team imaginable Recovering at Zen Healing & Recovery in Bel Air was one of the best decisions I made for my surgery journey. I had five major procedures at once, and to my surprise, I had no pain during recovery—something I never imagined possible. Colleen, the owner and manager, is truly remarkable. She’s one of the most empathetic and capable people I’ve ever met. Caring for patients in pain or anxiety doesn’t seem like a challenge to her—it’s simply who she is. She anticipates every need before you even have to ask. The recovery nurse Helen was just as wonderful—calm, skilled, and endlessly kind. And Phaedra, who is also part of the team, was so warm and attentive; together, these women create a space that feels safe, healing, and genuinely loving. There was never a moment I felt neglected or uncomfortable. Every detail of care was thoughtful, every interaction heartfelt. These women have clearly found a calling that aligns perfectly with who they are—knowledgeable, empathetic, and dedicated to helping people heal. My recovery was unbelievably smooth, and I know it contributed to my outstanding results from Dr. Rahban and Dr. Fisher. I’m so grateful for this level of care. Zen Healing & Recovery isn’t just a place to stay—it’s an experience that transforms recovery into something peaceful and empowering.
A welcoming community of sincere practitioners and profoundly knowledgeable teachers. Come for zazen on Saturday or Sunday mornings or Wednesday nights!
An excellent place with knowledgeable teachers and instructors where you can learn more about mindfulness and meditation.
There’s a deep irony in a Zen center that often seems more attached to ideological performance than to actual practice. Group discussions frequently begin with land acknowledgments and quickly shift into lengthy commentary dominated by older practitioners, many of whom appear more interested in hearing their views echoed than in engaging in true inquiry. It's hard not to wonder what Dōgen would say about a sangha so entangled in attachment to identity and opinion. That said, Sensei Myoho is a refreshing presence—steady, sincere, and grounded in the Dharma. Her approach stands in contrast to the performative tendencies that sometimes take over the room.
An excellent place to begin or deepen your practice with Buddhism, zazen or meditation. The grounds are beautiful, the practice direct and sincere and the members of the sangha welcoming and eager to share their thoughts with you. I’ve been going for over a year now and it’s truly transformed my life.
