This HITT class is helping me gain strength and build muscle. Joni is terrific at keeping class moving and making every second count!
Wonderful space teachers and classes! A neighborhood gem!
The session was great! Donna was warm and personable she gave great instruction and was mindful of giving multiple versions of poses that worked for every body type and every level. The message and meditation was absolutely beautiful.
Peaceful release. Donna has a soothing tone and way with words. She will lead you to surrender and you will have let go of your day before you’re even conscious of doing so. Yin yoga for the Mind, body and soul.
Copper River Wellness is wonderful! It is a small studio filled with kindness and positivity. Classes focus on strength and balance. Your heart rate will go up, but in a gentle way that doesn’t make you regret coming to class! Instructors are just as happy to see new people as they are to see long-time yoga students. Everyone is welcoming. If you are interested in yoga but don’t know what to expect, here’s a rundown. Sign up for classes online. You can complete all the digital forms and pay in advance. The basic cost of a class is totally reasonable, but there are some great deals, too. Show up 10 minutes early for your first class. You can park on the street or along the side of the building. It’s two doors down from Plate 21, and you'll see the yoga board out front. They have an entry room with great gear for sale and a place to leave your coat, shoes, and bags. Around the corner from the coat hooks, you’ll see the studio. Wear fitted clothes. They don’t have to be tight, but loose clothing will flop around and get in your way! I wear a fitted tank with a sweatshirt over it. My sweatshirt comes off after about 10 minutes as my muscles warm up. Some people wear socks, and some are barefoot. You’ll need a mat, and there are mats available for you to use (along with cleaning spray and cloths to wipe it all down when class is over). If you want your own, Katie has them for sale in the entry room. I bring a water bottle, but I tend to get thirsty. There is a bathroom down the hallway for students to use. Classes are small, with fewer than 12 people. We start by sitting on the mat and move into typical yoga poses. If you’ve never been to a class, they have a beginner's series of classes. Can’t make those? Look up tabletop, cat-cow, downward dog, child’s pose, and the warrior poses to help you understand the terminology. Each class I’ve attended explains the moves quickly. You’ll catch on, but I feel more comfortable if I have a bit of prior knowledge. Instructors all offer more intense options and “if your body can’t do that, try this” modifications. Those are my words, but I fit into the latter category and appreciate the kindness of the instructors. Class ends with Savasana. We rest, breathe, and enjoy the calm. Then it’s back to a seated position with a few deep breaths and a yoga zen moment. Wipe down any equipment you borrowed, put things away, get your shoes and coats on, and you are on your way! People are friendly and will chat for a few minutes after class if you enjoy that, but you can slip out with a wave, too. Plate 21 is just down the way if you want to reward yourself with a coffee and treat after class. It can be scary walking into a new place, but Katie is so friendly and has a great smile that quickly eases nerves. You'll be so glad you tried it!
